what words is Kiyomi learning ar? During Christmas, Trevor was writting "Christmas meal", "Christmas card" "winter"etc . now he is writting the 12 animals: rat, ox, tiger...........also "bai ni" "lai si" etc, some of the words are very difficult in Chinese ga.

From key stage 2, Kiyomi has homework everyday. It is some little worksheets which she needed to do everyday jeh and on Friday, sometimes she has to write a book review, if not, she may required to sentences using connectives from her spelling words that week. I don't think it is a lot, it won't give pressure to the children la. So I don't understand why some parents don't like it. Instead, the work can reinforce what they learn at school tim!
I think the parents are lazy to 'ask the children to do homework (as u know children must not want to do ga la!) and they are also lazy to check their childrens' homework!'
Does Trevor have a homework diary which written the homework he needs to do for that day? Or u just rely on what he told u about his homework???
Don't worry, I think Trevor's school is a good school if its academic results is not too bad, they must be busy inside the school la!

Really..............I haven't heard this before, but for now this school, the teacher said let them do the homework for only 20 mins, but I will let them do all(only 1 to 2 pages it shows what do they do in the pages) on Tuesdays and they will do the reading report on Saturdays.........so the other days only read their books and time tables.....

Kiyomi's previous school is very bad ga, they didn't do anything in class, they just let the children play ga jar.
Why I knew about this? My friend was studying to be a teacher and she was 'practised' in this school for a few weeks. She was teaching in a year 5 class, she said for the whole day, they usually let the children do what they want but not doing work for the whole class. So lots of children just messing around and for some better behaved children, they might sit in a corner reading books themselves. Then every morning they will have an assembly in the hall for at least 30 minutes, after assembly it is playtime, after playtime, it will be snack time, after that not long, it is lunch hour! So what are the children achieving at school????And she is talking about year 5 pupils wor!!!!!

In Chinese school,
She is learning weather words like 'wind, snow, rain, spring, summer, autumn, winter. Sentences like I am a student, you are a teacher, we learn at school etc. ' And she needs to count the strokes and put the words in right order (like we did when we were young).
For her, that is very difficult ga la as I have never taught her any Chinese b4 she went to Chinese school.

agree with you as they only learn Chinese once a week, so it is a challenge for them. Trevor is learning traditional character, it has more strokes. like the word "christmas" is terrible enough for him.

Don't understand why Ofsted reports still seem fine.

The SATs results are about National average. And it got good reputation among neighbourhood! (Well maybe parents like the freedom in this school!) That's why we thought it is an 'OK' school though not the best one. However, we found out our kid is not suitable for they type of school la.

U know what, when we decided to change school, we gave one week notice to the school saying we would be leaving cos we were moving house and thus need to change school, (we didn't say anything bad to school office or teacher), but from that day on (Kiyomi still had a week in the school), they did not allow Kiyomi to take any books home! On her reading record, they wrote down 'leaving school, no books take home' ar! I think that is ridiculous la, she was still having a week there ga wor, so does it mean for that week, she didn't need to do anything in the school???!!!!!!
Luckily I didn't inform them more than a week ar!
So when my friend's daughter left this school, I gave her advice to inform the school in the last minute ar!

They have 2 French club: 1 is outside professional people come to teach, you have to pay for this one as they have to pay for that professional person. the other one is taught by school teacher, that one is free! of course Trevor goes to the free one la,because I don't think he will take it seriously ar
