have u ever had chicken-pox or the vaccine yet?
if not, pls make sure u're not pregnant. coz it'll cause birth defect if u get chicken-pox during pregnancy.
that's why i think it's especially important for the females to get the chicken-pox vaccine (same for the Rubella).
in here, it's required for all the kids to have the chicken-pox and MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccines at 1 and 4 years old. otherwise, they can't get into daycare and schools.
i think the reasons being: these are highly contigious, and they try to avoid any missed school days.

actually, it's not gauranteed that u won't get chicken-pox after u had taken the vaccine, but it's like 95% u won't get it. i heard that some kids still get chicken-pox after having the shot, but it's much milder (no fever, only very little rashes, so much lesser side-effects).
all the vaccines here are not free, but they're covered by health insurance. only the low-income families can apply for the free medical insurance provided by the government. so, part of our expensive tax-dollars go to the low-income families. that's why the Chinese people from Mainland really wanna come to the US.
