even u have health insurance, it's not completely free. it depends on yr insurance plan, each visit to doctor's office usually requires co-payment (out of yr own pocket) of US$10, $20, or $30. for hospital, usually u'll need to pay at least 10% or more. like for my c-section birth to my son, i paid less than US$2000 even with health insurance.
however, i heard that the health insurance in HK doesn't cover for giving birth at all.

that's why i think it's especially important for the females to get the chicken-pox vaccine (same for the Rubella).

in here, it's required for all the kids to have the chicken-pox and MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccines at 1 and 4 years old. otherwise, they can't get into daycare and schools.
i think the reasons being: these are highly contigious, and they try to avoid any missed school days.
