good morning
astha and me are having great time here in shanghai.
the weather is not so cold as i expected only problem is at night when windy, so we usually go out at day time.
daddy has not come yet until this saturday morning but my mum and aunt will arrive here tomorrow and will have dinner to celebrate the winter festival together.
next week we will go to hangzhou or somewhere near shanghai to have a look.

I met my husband in Hong Kong, he was my friend's workmate. He is 5 foot 6 inches with 60kg and i'm 150cm with nearly 50kg for now. That's why I said we both not a big tough guys. By the way, where's your husband from??

Was a shame, at the last minute I had caesarean section. We both went to all these breathing classes and really looking forward to do the push.
I went in the hospital caused 見紅. Stayed over 30 hours, when it was really painful I asked for pain killer , after a while my water broke and I still 唔開度數, because they said my girl is too big. They kept nagging me into C-section, while I was in deep pain.... Worst was my hubby just left the hospital for a while , did not see us went into the operation room. Only able to see us 2 hours after the operation.

My girl is big, still is. She size is 3-4 but only 27 months which shocked most of the people who met her.

my mami live so far with me,so when she hoilday(need to work),she must visit her grachild~ :lol:
my husband "s mami n father also at their country,they also vary miss us...maybe next year can visit his grama~~ hehe~

when i was pregnancy i have no think will give my baby bf......but when my son born ,i want to give him the best so i try low~hehe~!(now he eat hongkong snow brand)

But in England, they have at least 6 mths pregnancy leave with salary and the fathers can leave 1 hour before off work if they have a NB baby at home and which is never happen in HK :-(

If we rent a dvd in a store, it also costs US$4. I think this online mail order movie idea is fairly new, we haven't seen any advertisement until this year! On their website, it said "We are aware that a movie may occasionally be lost during the shipping process through no fault of the customer. Therefore, it is our policy to replace lost movies at no charge. If an excessive amount of lost DVD reports are filed on an account, we will place the account under review and notify the customer via email."

Wow, "life is beautiful" is my favorite movie too! I watched it 2 times in the theater and a few more times at home!! I'm definitely gonna watch "the pursuit of happiness" then~

Is your daughter going to kindergarten next year? Have you picked one yet? LCD tv in her room?? Wow, what a lucky girl~~

Oh, it's too bad that your hubby couldn't be there when you gave brith. Does the wound still hurt? If you have another baby, you also need to have C-section?
My labor+delivery was really long too --- almost 40 hours!! I was in labor for 26 hours before they would admit me into the hospital (Hospital policy: They won't admit anybody until you are 4cm dilated). I was already in so much pain (I had a back labor---my baby was in a difficult position) that I requested epidural. However it took me too long to dilate to 10cm, the pain killer was gone and I was in so much pain again :-( Since my dilation was so slow, the doctors had to induce labor and break my water ....The nurse was already filling out the C-section paperwork for me, and suddenly the doctor said I was all dilated and ready to push, and luckily at this last moment my baby turned back to a normal position! Yes, it wasn't easy to push an almost 9lbs baby out of me....I don't think I can ever forget the entire experience!
Looking at your daughter's picture, I thought she is at least 3 years old~~

Do you have a christmas tree at home? Did you take your son to see the christmas lights in Central or TST? I saw some pictures of the lights from my friends, they are very pretty!
Oh, your husband's family is not in HK? Have you visited them before? How long has he been living in HK? Does he speak Cantonese? How did you two meet? Sorry to ask so many questions

you and I have same taste!
The DVD rental is not that new as my husband has done the marketing report last year in school. He said there is a lot of grey area on the mail delivery and he mention something about disposable DVD, so you can activate it whenyou receive the mail and no need to return, but when I asked him last night, he said he forgot everything!

yes, my daughter will go for kindergarten next year SEP. I think I will put her near our house, just around the corner. Although the reputation is not that great, I guess it is not much different for such young age. I was talking to other mothers in Canada, they said they spend $1000/mth to send kids to Montessori kindergarten while it is free for normal school. I cannot afford so much and I prefer to send her to other classes. In Jan, she will go for ice-skating and in March, I will put her back in swimming. I like her to be active and mix with local kids.

Just curious do you dance? My daughter watch so much Angelina Ballerina (cartoon), she shows me how to jump and dance(ballet) and I am thinking to put her in a ballet class and see if she can pick it up.

Wait until your son older, then you may do more. I just try to do what I can afford.

Wow....you are tough women, I think this is the basic instinct to be a new mami. Actually, I'm really want my husband would go to the delivery room with me but I'm afraid he might be pass out before the baby pops out. Coz he scare the blood stuff, even watch the "ER" or "House" at home he did passed out for few times already. So I'm not too optimistic abt that.

My husband has been living in HK for nearly 11 yrs. He only can speak a little bit cantonese as he's been tried to go to the cantonese lesson at HKLLC but it seems he just doesn't has the talent for langunage. Well........for basic things like order food, shopping and bargain the price down at the market, actually he is quite good at it. But he can't catch up with our cantonese tv programme. As my mom can't speak english but somehow they can communicate ok! This is what I suprise abt that.

hi AKW,
I didn't know US medical is so bad! Is it only happen in public hospital? How about in private hospital? Just curious how much you have to pay to give birth?
I know US doesnt have a central medical care system, but how much the govt will cover the child birth? In Canada, we have medical care, so we can choose to have obstetrician or midwife to monitor the whole pregnancy. Then my husband extend care which cover the whole family allow me to upgrade to semi-private room.

When I give birth in HK, they admit me just because I feel something wrong and I only broke the water next day morning, then 12 hrs labor and only give birth as the nurse say this is the last chance to try.

Mrs_Piglet, it is not that scary to withness the childbirth. It is the greatest moment and I insist my husband to go as he has to monitor if the hospital has mix up other child.
Regarding on learning Cantonese, let him watch more cantonese tv and he can pick it up. See how so many Singaporean can speak Cantonese, most of them pick it up from movie.

reginang, Hope you are enjoying your life in Shanghai. Just wonder how is the Xmas spirit in China?

my husband living in hk aready 8yrs,he can speak good cantonese,and my english not vary good....
we also speak cantonese with our son ~ :mrgreen:
we met in hk when we working~

Yes, Montessori schools are also expensive in the States. Wow, your daughter must be having so much fun!! It's always good to let young kids learn more and explore more. They can pick up new skills so much faster than we can! I never learned dancing/ballet. I went ice-skating quite a bit, but never formally learned it. I wish I had! I used to swim a lot; I was a swimming team member of my secondary school and I was a lifeguard once at a hk public pool~ Will you let your daughter learn an instrument? My husband plans to send our son to learn Kung-fu when he's old enough, haha....

I know Canada's medical care is very good!! My friend who gave birth in Toronto in Jan said they didn't need to pay much at all. They are not even citizens/residents. My friend's husband were studying there at that time, now they are back to HK.

The medical system in the States is not that good. There are no government hospitals; all hospitals are private! No matter you are citizens or not, you have to buy health insurance (monthly payment+copay at each visit) to go see doctors (otherwise you just have to pay an outrageous amount of money). During my pregnancy, I had to pay over US$350/month for my health insurance. I could pick my own OB and hospital where I wanted to deliver my baby. The OB monitored my entire pregnancy. The labor/delivery room at the hospital where I gave birth was great! I had a private room with private bathroom, tv, cd player, dvd player and refrigerator which felt like a hotel room. My nurse even dimmed the lights for me. I made a CD with all soothing songs and played it in the room the whole time. All the nurses and doctors said that was very relaxing. My husband and my mom could stay by my side from the time I admitted to the time I left the hospital. Their medical team is very good and professional. The only bad thing is the policy of 4cm dilation, but they have their reason (they think it's better to stay and wait at home than to wait in the hospital). If you have a bloody show or your water breaks, they will admit you right away. Well, at the end I still had to pay over US$2000 for the birth (a vaginal birth without complication). I think it costs quite a bit to have a baby in the States! Of course you can get government help if you are very poor.

I think your husband's cantonese is pretty good! He can communicate with your mom, and even bargain at the market!!?! TV programs sometimes are hard to follow. Do you guys talk to each other in Cantonese or English? Does he speak Mandarin too?
