YES, & in some cases, I agree. This happened with my mum's friend. Eg) 62/99 paid for the whole banquet. Guests come baring gifts of $$ and gold. In this case, ALL $$ and gold belongs to 62/99 (because the $ and gifts guests give really goes to pay for the wedding party, not really for the bride).
In one real case, bride's family wanted a big $$$ wedding for their friends (40 tables in 6* hotel) yet bride's side contributed nothing. 62/99 had no friends or relatives (just 1 or 2 tables) & really couldn't afford. Bride asked 62/99 to sell their house to pay for it and THEY DID! In this case I think 62/99 have every right to think the bride's gold gifts belong to them, esp. when the banquet alone was probably half mil, and the gold around 100K.
