first of all, you should write down a list of what to buy when 叫佢去 supermarket 買野.... can't just let them decide what to buy gar.
I've similar experience as you and your husband. Something very minior in those men's mind.. but might affect us (coz' we are the one giving out the money). So, you actually have to pick what need to ask your husband and what you can just made decision on your own. There is no right or wrong.. it's just everyone has their own value.
Next time when you ask your maid to the supermarket, just give her a list of what to buy and tell her other items that are not on the list, she needs to ask you first if the household needs before she make a purchase.
If you don't mind to provide her with coffee, then you can include coffee in the list when it's ran out.
Beside, not only 去 supermarket 買野... other things when you feel uncomfortable... you will need to tell her when it first happened... don't wait. Coz' my experience is... when she has already done it for a few times... it's even harder for you to 出声!
I have employed my yan-yan for 9 months (also first time be an employer), I take the control of marketing myself, even it consumes time and energy. Your helper should get approval from you before shopping, especially for her own interest (unless it is on her own accounts); otherwise she will go far time by time. Your hb seems to be too mild, like all other men (my hb also). My opinion - be strict, just tell her to buy what is on your shopping list.
