The Galston Scarecrow Gathering

The scarecrows will be gathering again in Galston and District from the 14th September. They will meet at The Hornsby Shire Garden Expo in Fagan Park for judging on Sunday 21st September.
Making scarecrows is a fun activity in which all the family can join as well as businesses and community groups. To take part all you have to do is to build your scarecrow. Whilst it can be a traditional scarecrow you can just let your imagination run wild to create all manner of impressive scarecrows and whimsical characters. You can use almost anything to make them from the usual old clothes, odds and ends, discarded items, junk, Council clean ups and pre-loved shops. Many ideas can be found on the Internet under ‘scarecrow festivals’.
Businesses are encouraged to use scarecrows to promote their business. Scarecrows will be around the shops, villages, road sides and properties. Why not make and display your scarecrow even if you do not wish to enter The Judging Competition?
Prizes will be awarded in four categories — Traditional, Theme, Schools, and Fantasy/Contemporary (for all those who aspire to the highest possible challenge). There will be a People's Choice award for their favourite scarecrow, sponsored by Bunnings Dural.
Most scarecrows will leave their homes on Sunday 21st September to gather at The Hornsby Shire Country & Garden Fair in Fagan Park for a party, judging and prize giving.
Entry to The Fagan Park Gathering and Judging Competition costs only $5.
The Hornsby Shire Country & Garden Fair features information stalls, plant and produce sales, children's rides, food, drinks and much more. Entry to the Expo is free. It attracted around 6,000 people in 2007.
