I want to share my bad experiment with you so that hope you won't lost money like me as the maid still in HK till 1 Jun 2009.

The maid is dismissed yesterday and she came to my house on Saturday and so just 4 days make me lost $6400. ($300 for changing the flight schedule as the agent said I can't assign her a date of flight, she can choose it herself)

She is philipino and I don't expect much from her in advance as the agent already told me that she is unexperiment and never in HK before but she are taught in school before come to HK. (Agent said it is hard to find a experimented philipino maid in HK)

Reasons for fire her:
1. Don't know how to mop floor, mop floor with single hand, the mop is too wet, don't know how to twist the mop to get the water out
2. As my wife ask her to clean the blender, she put the sponge into blender and try to switch the blender on
3. Use juice blender for raw meat
4. Keep sending SMS
5. Do thing so slow, 2 hrs mop the floor more than 1 hr wash few dishes
6. Due to do things slowly we have to cook for her breakfast, lunch and dinner!!

By the way, can anyone tell me whether employer can assign a particular date for maid return flight or we must buy her a open ticket?

Really unhappy to hear yr bad experience. By the way, this lesson is really expensive. For the date of air ticket, u can discuss with maid first before ordering. As per my previous one, I give her 1 mth notice & ask her what day prefer to fly back, mark down clearly on the payroll sheet which she request to leave on that day. I had no responsibility if she can't go on flight on time.
Just my little exp to share, after review all the points yu mentioned & don't think she made big mistake that u fire her immediately. Since her culture & education is totally diff when compare with HK. U already knew that she had no exp as helper & should pay more attention to teach her not only one time but many many time, may be let her mark the details when u talked or requirements. Hope it can help a bit for yr next coming maid. Good luck.

Thanks for your suggestion, but the point is I can't imagine a maid don't even know how to squenze water out from mop and clean the blender by hand (she put a sponge into blender and turn it on).

May be I disappoint to the agent that she said their maid school will provides basic teaching of hosuework.

I missed my first maid she is from indonsia, she is surprisingly good!! But she left us!!

Don't expect anything from the training class that the maid got fromthe agency. All these are just a gimmicks. Nothing was really taught inthere. The maid we had before told me that the course was useless, justanother way to get money from them.

Did you hire the maid from agent ? Did you interview her ? Next time, when you interview a new maid you must ask her a lot of questions. So, you will know she is experienced or not.

What a bad news? I ever employed a philipino who haven't work before either in & outside philiphine.
She is very thin & short, but she eat a lot, especially when dinning out.
At home she work slow, and work until 7 pm. I have to prepare dinner for her and my elder son. I have to emphaize she came to my home when I am 6-mths.
During cooking, she found tired & sat in her room by closing door. Just leave my elder son in the living room. He claimed over the cupboard. He is only 2-1/2 yrs old. Sometimes, I wonder is it a kind of child abuse?

Sorry, I missed your Q. For the air ticket, then, I fired the maid. I only gave her a ticket within or after the day I fired her without paying extra. But, you have to mention clearly which is an open ticket, and it can be changed at her own cost.
This rule was told by the agent as there was a case in court for suing the charge caused by changing departure date. Finally, maid won it. To protect yourself, it should be clearly mentioned & signed in a written document.

I had tried to hire maid from a small agent & they charged less than $2,000. However, they lied a lot in the paper processing and delayed to submitted the docs. I had to check w/Philipino consulate & follow up HK Immigration to ensure docs were under processing. Even visa was finally approved, the maid did not come for the reason that she could not find the way to borrow money for paying the agent. I wasted 3 months time without a maid in home. Finally, I changed back to use big scale agent - Overseas. Even though I also had experience to hire bad maid from them previously. But they are really responsible and change a new maid for me within the agreed changing maid period. So I understand this is more protective to me even I hv to pay much more to them (they charge $3,000 something). But I never hire local maid from them because so far I do not find those are good.

I used the same agency as you did, agree with you, the girls were not exceptionally good but they did honor their guarantee terms without any disputes. For after-sales service, they did a good job.

Hi all,

Checked with Labour Dept, they said the contract only require employer to pay the travel expense but not flight ticket. But they recommand to buy her a open ticket.

I found philipino is worser than indo maid, just my opinion!!
