Please give me some advise on the High School selection. I am looking for a co-ed Catholic one.
As I am new in Sydney and my son is in Year 5, I believe that he may not get good result in the exam for entrance of selective high school. Some of my friends said the christian high schools or the catholic high schools are better than the public high schools because these school concern more about the children's behavior and have a better discipline. I live in Beecroft now. I will move if the high school is good for my son.
I am in similar boat - my oldest is in yr 5 this year too, no hope of getting into selective high school. The difference is, my husband & I both dislike religious high schools (bad experiences growing up). So my daughter is likely to go to Cheltenham Girls or Carlingford High.
Can't help you with co-ed Catholic High School. Though I have heard Holly Cross College (boys) at Victoria Road Gladesville is good (have a friend who had both sons there, both did quite well (got high 90s in HSC), the youngest son is actually back there teaching now).
Thank you so much for your reply. Which primary school your daughter is in? My boy is in Beecroft Public School now. He is going to Year 6 in next year. I don't like Epping Boy because my boy is a weak one who is easy to get bully by other. And he had have this situation before. So if he goes to a boy school, I afraid that he will get bully more easily.
Cheltenham girl is a very good school, however, my boy could not study there.
What do you mean bad experience growing up? Would you please share with me? How do you feel with Carlingford High? Someone said it is good, but some other said it is bad. I am not sure where I should send my son to. I heard Killara High is a good one, but it is just too far away and too expensive to move there.
Thank you for listening to me.
I have 2 kids in Denistone East now (youngest will start Kindie next year). We moved to North Epping from West Ryde, but didn't change their school.
I have heard good and bad things about Cheltenham Girls too - bad things mainly to do with the school principal's style of dicipline and the school culture she encouraged!!! I have friends who have children in Carlingford High (or are considering it), they seem fairly happy and have told me that the school has improved quite a bit in the last few years. I only mentioned these two as we are in their catchment area, so should get in without problems.
My younger two are boys. They should be going to Epping Boys. Again because we are in the catchment area, also because my Mum-in-law lives in the retirement village next door. So if I go back to full time work later, I can be assured that my boys will be supervised after school - less likely to get into bad habbits.
So as you can see - my choice of schools are due to personal / family reasons.
I am so glad to hear from you. Last time you asked how I find Beecroft Public? It's because my nieces studied there and because I afraid that my son did not know anybody else so I move to Beecroft and let him be with my niece. And now my niece is studying in St. George High School which is far away from here.
Yes, everybody choose school base on its own need, for me I just want to find a school which is concern the students' behavoir (good discipline, good manner and nice to each other) and the teachers care their students. I am sorry that may be my English expression is not so fully understood by you. But I hope you know what I mean.
Thanks,
Bigbigmother
