I did hired two Indonesian helpers before but both of them were terminated. The reasons are: difficult to communicate; no common sense; never apologize when they made mistakes (I was getting mad about this); immature; not a good caretaker.
The first filipina was a young girl but she's experienced to take care of baby. The house was a bit messy but my first priority is my two kids so she's still an ideal person. The second one was also experienced, smart and speaks good english as well. She resigned after 2 1/2 years. The existing one is hardworking, obedient and speaks good english.
I think a good helper is depend on her personality and ability, not the racial. I prefer filipina because it's more convenient when I talk about my kids with her and she understands my instructions better.

I only hire helper through friends' referal and never consider the newcomers. I think the Indonesian are easily influenced by friends and they are more tricky nowadays (disappear and claim the employer at labour tribunal).
Whenever we are looking for a maid, my husband will send SMS to all of his friends to see if there is any referral. The existing one has been working for his friend's sister for 4 years and was highly recommended.
My first helper (indonesian) was hired through agency. She claim she was underpaid and put the case to labour tribunel. Luckily we won the case. The other helper (filipina) was terminated in 1 week's time because of her abnormal behaviour and below average IQ (it was mentioned in her medical report, but the agency said she's still a capable person!). That's why we only consider friends' referral. It cannot guarantee a good helper but at least a mentally and physically healthy helper.
