She waited for months for her new Philippino helper to come from the Philippines (not local hire). She paid the new insurance.
After 2 weeks, her maid said she was home sick & wanted to go home for good. The maid asked my neighbour to terminate her. My friend didn't want to & asked the maid to resign. The maid refused. So my friend wrote & gave the maid 1 month notice.
Then she found out that with that termination letter from the employer, the maid can go back to the Philippines & get the insurance money (~HK$2k) paid to the maid!!!!
So with 2 weeks' work, the maid gets a free trip to visit her friends & relatives in HK, 14 days stay in HK seeing Disneyland, & HK$2k from the insurance!
Can anyone confirm the above? I think HKSAR should do something about it!
