I just terminated a domestic helper named Myrna ORBI?O LED?A, 1968年8月, 此菲傭曽於太古城工作兩年，另一份工作做了兩個月被解僱. I strongly believe she works with her agency to gain money from termination. It gave my children and I harsh experience. From the first day she worked at my home. she was very impolite, pushing me to terminate her. That maid worked my home for about 5 months due to some mistakes and holidays, so this termination is deferred. When I terminated her, she even said I jealoused her because my daughter loved her more than loved me. Answered back a lot.
I posted the reasons of termination because I do not want other families suffering from the same experience. She refused to acknowledge receipt of the termination but I think I must keep proper record in case she plays some games:
- switch off the light when my daughter is taking bath
- when my daughter cried or call her, she will not response to her timely and my
daughter got voice track inflammation. On that day, I also vomitted due to her
severe manner
- held both her FISTS to show she wanted to beat my child, in one instance the cause
she insisted my daughter to drink soup first, but she wanted to eat rice and dish first.
The maid pushed her to change clothes while she was eating (dinner)
- often spoke Tagalog to scold my children
- told my children she would not care for them
(my child asked me she worked at our home was to take care of us, why she said
would not care for us?)
- scold my daughter wasted her time
- (I extracted some from my letter - very stubborn, awfully impolite and like to answer back very much in severely manner in every possible moment, irresponsible, completely no initiative, dirty, armpits, touch your soles when clipping and hanging clothes, spits in the basin and the bath tub, etc. and sluggish, even you cooked only one dish for dinner and no need to cook lunch for my daughter, also complained you were very busy, there were a lot of work at my home. On 30 April, you were not required to cook any meals for us, I found you took 3 hours to iron one load of clothes but not yet finished, then I asked you why, you told me no need to ask you angrily, you said you needed to stop many times, I took care of my children and ate outside, nobody would disturb you except your personal calls. I just asked you to clean the floor and dusting, you told me not easy? You are not able to work sensibly and often not follow instructions, has many telephone calls, messages and told me you used SMS to pray. Your agency told me that you are good at cooking but I found your cooking skill is very poor so I taught you and gave you some cook books to learn some simple dishes but you rarely follow. Her agency - Hundred Years in Mongkok Employment Service (百年公司) biased this maid very much, their Ms Yu mentioned that the maid told her that she needed to bring lunch to my daughter’s school (about 30 minutes for round trip), pick her up from school, bring her to tutorial class and an activity class (on weekdays in our estate) not only downstairs which needed to take few minutes and would interrupt the maid’s work. Some of their helpers only need to bring children to take school bus and my children have many activities (Children in Hong Kong are commonly joined few kinds of extra-curricular activities). Those are our jobs, many housewives and domestic helpers are doing similar jobs. That agency said I have a lot of work, I told her better to ask the maid to mark down how long she needs to do each job but she dare not to do so.
Even I told the agency the maid's problems, that Ms Yu still suggested giving that domestic helper notice that I would arrange to release her soon so to form a happy ending. The maid might feel happy and change her attitude, she could find another employer and I could save one-month payment-in-lieu of notice. How she can
guarantee what the maid would do during this period. I can see that agency may get the most advantages, as their clause mentioned that Deposit $1,000 – will refund when the new maid has worked for 6 months. Their staff told me that this clause applied to both overseas domestic helpers and those hired locally. In addition to $1000, both the maid and that agency can have more time to find another employer, gain agency fee, save time and money to arrange the maid to go to Macau.
I hope our governmemt can do something to prevent this kind of agency and domestic helpers doing something to hurt us to achieve their objectives.
