We will visit Gold Coast this summer and still planning our trip. It’s worth to join the EKKA show. Can you share your experience? What have you done there?
Before we decided to go to EKKA show, we had no expectation and thought that it was like Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo in Victoria Park, mainly selling Australian produce. The entry ticket was not cheap and we did not buy the one including food. We planned to go for half day but we ended up staying there for the whole day. We watched and fed lots of farm animals in a hugh petting indoor ground filled with hundreds of sheep, pigs, chickens, etc ; watched many different kinds of animals' competition, including many breeds of dogs, cats and horses; strolled in the garden decorated with many beautiful flowers and plants; tried the FREE Woolworth tasting workshop, serving entree, main course and also dessert with wine (need to register but offer many times a day -> highly recommend); we also watched the evening show and ended the day with firework, not to mention buying 2 big mystery bags full of snacks, drinks and magazines (very heavy but of good value if you don't mind to carry for the whole day as the mystery bags will be sold out soon in early afternoon). We did not play the motor-driven games in the amusement park as it was quite expensive and the games were similar to those offered in the European Carnival in Central. If you are visiting Brisbane during August, I highly recommend you to visit the EKKA show. Also it is free to park on the street on Sunday so you do not need to pay for parking within the EKKA exhibition area. We just parked a few blocks nearby , close to the residential area.
Last but not the least, you do not need to buy the ticket on-line via Klook or the official website. A few days before the EKKA show, woolworth supermarket will sell discounted/combo tickets for family of 4. However, you must watch the last day for sale because the discounted tickets in woolworth will not be available after the show has started. I bought the ticket at the door and the price was the same as those offered at the official website.
For the horse riding, I have already provided you the horse farm I tried in my previous post. I picked it purely because the farm offered promotional package via Australian Groupon when I planned my trip. It turned out to be a wonderful experience, especially the ride along a river, nearby a forest. The horse farm I went was unable to reach by public transportation.
