My friend is a 婦產 doctor. She works from 8 to 6 everyday Monday to Friday and half day on Saturday. On top of that, on call (當夜) 8 times per month. Each on-call lasts approximately 32 hours, which means she gets to work from 8am to 4pm the next day. And back to regular working hours the day after. She averages about 90 hours per week. Sometimes even 120 hours of working.
Each on-call is not relaxing either. Approximately 4-6 開刀 BB plus other small operations. Alot of times lunch and dinner lasts only 10 to 20 minutes. Operating at 4am late night is a very usual thing and very tiring. Plus, everything has to be done very carefully and quickly kind of like the card dealers in macau casino dealing cards to you in a hurry.
Finally, repeat the life described above for 10 years.
There is just not enough doctors or people to maintain the hospital. Working that many hours are simply crazy. I am sure doctors would like to have more time to take care about the patients and to care about them. But when there are many babies and not enough medical personnel. Something has be to done by the HK government.
