i am going to paris,
can i walk in and buy from there?
Usually you will have to buy other smaller items such as scarves and other accessories before they will sell you a Birkin. And they will usually ask you what color and size etc. you want, and then bring the box up from their basement where they store the bags, instead of letting you know what stock they have. Good luck!
In fact, it is not "THAT" hard to buy a Birkin from Hermes Store. Let me share some of my experience.
1. In Hong Kong, as what people said, the waiting list has closed to all walk-in customers. However, VIPs in fact can pruchase what they like. Back in Christmas time 2008, when the new Canton Road Hermes re-opens, I saw a 35cm size Birkin in the window. I was also shown by the sales lady a baby-blue in 30cm. (p.s. I am not a VIP at all)
2. In Europe, like in Paris, it's easier to purchase as i have an experience there. I went in to the shop and i was served by a polite salesman. I then asked for Birkin. He went down to the storeroom and bring me some color. I was allowed to choose and then i picked my favourite one and an extra one for my mum. I was offered to have free delivery to my hotel in Paris as well.
3. I don't trust those xxx stations because i am not 100% sure if they are real or not. In China, there's a lot of manufacturers doing fake Hermes bags with the real and exact leather. Also, what's the point of buying a bag a sky-high price from them? (They are selling 30% more than the Hermes retail price)
But i have said...Birkin is one of the most valuable bags and worthy to buy it, if you can afford. I am so love with the Birkin, although i seldom use it for work. I would recommand you to buy it.
Good luck in getting the Birkin. I hope i can see you posting your new bag soon!!
Yes, i communicated with them in English as I do not know much French. But as of politeness, i would always say "Bojour" (English: Good day) or "Merci" (English: Thank you) to them. France is a very interesting place. If you are rude, they will not be pleased to serve you.
The two Brikin are Cognac color (kind of brown) and the "trademark" orange color, both in togo leather.
I think Kelly is more formal and suitable for evening occasion. However, the Birkin can use on daily basis, like doing shopping, Friday night drink etc... I can even saw people wearing their Birkin in the beach!!!!

I and my circle of freinds has a recent discussion, i.e. will you take MTR if you carry a Hermes Birkin?
My friend said she once saw a woman with a Hermes Birkin in a MTR train and she said she won't behave like this..for me, I think it's ok, as long as the bag is yours and you can deal with it whatever you like, comment?
its not unusual for ppl taking mtr from central to cwb and vice versa to avoid traffic jam, and it certainly doesnt lower one's class by taking public transport, judging ppl simply by the kind of tranportation they take at one time is kinda naive, dun u think?
