Get a new toy that he/she has never had before (but you got to buy something he/she will be interested in) then once the child is bored, take it out otherwise keep it for later on.
Most flight do have cartoons nowadays, so I think there should not be a problem. Or if you are bring along a NB or portable DVD, just play his/her favourite cartoon.
