if your cycle is regular, you can take a home pregnancy test on the first day when you miss your period. If you have been taking your basal body temperature everyday, you should know that you are pregnant when your temperature is at high side for over 18 days after you ovulated. Home pregnancy test is over 90% accurate but sometimes the hormone inside your body hasn't build up yet so some people choose to take a blood test to find out if they are pregnant.
TinMum, my 18th days rule only applies when you have been taking your basal body temperature everyday. If you haven't been doing so, you better wait till the first day you miss your period before you do the home pregnancy test. If it turns out to be negative and your period still not coming, wait for another two to three days before you do another test. Sometimes you are pregnant but your hormone level is not high enough at the beginning of your pregnancy so better wait for a few more days before you test again.
Bear in mind that sometimes our ovulation may delay for stress or health condition so our period will be delayed as well. I used to have a month when my period was late of over two weeks. I keep doing pregnancy test for three times but still turn out to be negative. I went to see a doctor and she told me that if the test show that I am not pregnant by then, I am pretty much not pregnant and it probably only because my period is delay for some reasons. Then my period started after another day after I visited the doctor.
I wonder if you feel any sign of pregnancy yet? If you are very desparate, maybe you can go to see a doctor and find out. They sometimes can do a blood test to check on your hormone level to confirm whether you are pregnant or not.
