I would like to know how to get my kid quit thumb sucking. She is now 2.5 years old. She does thumb sucking every day when she goes to bed. I tried to tell her that she was old enough to quit it but failed. Would any mums share their experience. Thanks.
my girl is 15mths now, and I tried to make her quit sucking her thumb one week ago. I told her good babies do not suck their thumbs, and she is a big girl now and so do not need to suck the thumb to go to sleep. Then, I ask for her hand which she sucks, and hold the hand until she falls asleep. And I also sing her songs and pat her on the face or arms, so that she feel soothing and warm.
She refused and get angry on the first day. But she accepted it on the second day, and showed hesitation when she tried to put her thumb into the mouth. She is almost "clean" now, except when she is feeling very uneasy.
I think it may take you a little more time and effort as your baby is older. Keep up the good work
Yes, it will take me more time. I will keep on telling her that she is now a little girl and not a baby. But as you suggested, I will try to soothe her and let her feel secure when she goes to bed.
Teresa,
What is the brand name of the "bitter water"? Please advise. Thanks.
