My son also started talking late. He spoke the first 'understandable' word when he was 26 months. Before that, he couldn't any word, even 'Dad' and 'Mom'. Since then, he learnt quickly.
Although he cannot catch up with other kids of the same age so far, I am satisfied with his progress.
Don't worry, your kid will start talking very soon. :)
