The Toronto District Catholic Schools Board offers languages classes on Saturdays. I think you can check with them for the list of which schools providing these courses on Saturday and then go to that school on Saturday to check if they are full or not. Don't call on weekdays to that school because they work separately. Which area are you living in? I am in Scarbourough.

On the other hand, I don't know if Toronto Public School Board can provided Mandarin class or not. For TDCSB, if more than a certain % of parents agreed on a certain language to be taught in school, the school can apply for that language to be taught in school as mandatory. My daughter's school wanted to apply for Mandarin last year - then will start for this year in school, but after a survey, just a little bit less than the minimum % of agreement from parents. I will check with the school if they want to apply for next year again.

non catholic can also apply for this saturday classes, only depending on the space - for elementary school and is much simpler. this school is in Finch/Warden. however, i assume that the secondary class only for students studying in catholic school, because the staff asked which school is my daughter studying in. when i told them they said ok for her and asked her to give the copy of the application form to her counsellor in school to sign and then the counsellor had to make an appointment with them to arrange for something ... which i think is for the document/paper for my daughter's credit in this language at her school's report.

TDCSB is Toronto District Catholic School Board.

Hello everyone... I just found this topic ... I wanna post something here, cuz I lived in Richmond Hill and Markham for 8 years before I went back to HK.

I am now staying HK and was returned to HK in 2000 after graduation.

In recent years, I always “heart big heart small” think of coming back to Toronto cuz I have a 2.5 years old kid…

It is very hard to make a decision to move back to Toronto cuz both my hubby and I have career in HK. But, we mutual agreed that our kid should be educated in Toronto in later year. In fact, we are not sure in which year.

Any one can share their opinions?

178 - if both you and 66 got a good career, and u do not plan to work anymore after you come to Toronto, of course stay in HK to save more $$ lor, as here hardly save $$ due to high taxes.
but if you want yr kid to merge to the local society, you might want him/her to come early.

my nephew is also thinking, he could not let go of the decent pay job, but want the girl to have local education. needle never have two pointed end. so have to give up something

178, just share w u my case...

both my c6 & me got a very good job/career+ $$ in HK. we got 2 children..age 2 & 4. we move here because of

1) education system in HK is @*&$(#$&#*$, actually, we paid quite high school fees in HK...we may also need to save $$ for their overseas education at their teen if cont. there...

2) living/work condition...

in HK...most people use band name product & so do I, i worked in admairty/causeway bay b4. i just went shopping every work day (miss that time much)

here...no one care this & i just found that...i really don't care/need this....hee hee...i'm Mrs. Sheep...

True that here can't save $$ (specially i don't work now...)......also, we still working hard in connecting people as we a new ma....even so, we enjoy this move...

again, just my simple case.... :-P

thanks for sharing...

it is very hard to make a decision "now"... not like when we decided to go back to HK in 2000.... we just completed school and started to work... everything start from zero... but now, we have our flat, car, job and helper.... typical HK family... if we come back, it shouldnt be a give up, but re-start our livelihood....

Tsang04, may I know yr kids are now 2 and 4 years old? when u come back toronto when they are 2 & 4?

i strongly agreed with what doggie said, "if u do not plan to work anymore after you come to Toronto, of course stay in HK to save more $$ lor,".. my mom also told me that... but i think i probably have to work after i come back if it will be happened in recent years... cuz i am not even close to retired age....
just wonder, if i really have to work, no matter in hk or toronto, should i come back earlier? it is a struggle for me

178 - it is really yr choice. i worked both hk and toronto. life style here is diff. most of office work is just 5 days and straight 7.5/8 hrs per day. not much O/T require -> u have more time with the kid. (but this might change due to the financial crisis)

as per tsang said - here people not care about brand name. so save$$ on clothing.
friend's gathering always hold in one of the group's - with pot luck, so say $$ for dining out.
life here is simple.. but save less $$ and little pay job.
