I live in Edgewater, NJ. it's very close to NYC, you can take bus to Timesquare, but house prices are also very expensive, most of them are condos. Woodbridge, Edison, East Brunswick are a little far, but still train accessible. They're closer to chinese grocery stores/restaurants in that area.

I heard Tenafly (Bergen county, Northern NJ) school district is good. it's also close to NYC.

Those cities you mentioned are not on the top 50 best school list in New Jersey. You might want to consider Bergen county. I've read a lot of articles, and talk to a lot of people. You have to take a lot of things into consideration. I typically like to live in an area where there are a lot of Asian people, so our kids won't feel left out. Of course good school district, and the convenience to go to the city. We narrow down to Fair Lawn (very good value #46 in New Jersey school system), and Ridgewood (a bid out of our price range, #12 in New Jersey school system.)

In the end, we choose Ridgewood. We just can't see ourselves live anywhere else than here. My first impression of Ridgewood downtown is like a picture from the Christmas Greeting card. People here are just so nice (unreal), I am in shock. My next door neighborhood (left and right), left us presents by the door the week we move in. While we are busy moving and unpack, who has time to do any yard work. Guess what, the neighbor on the left cut my grass in the front yard and the right did the back. The neighbor on our left they are extremely sweet, we feel ashamed. We live here almost 2 years, we share driveway. We only shovel the snow one time in 2 years. We are always too late. They even did our front walkway and our entry way for us, every time. The library here is huge. They have a large section dedicate to kids, you never have to buy DVD, book ever again. They even have Chinese news paper in the library daily. They also offer different classes you can take. The town pool and parks here are beautiful. I can go on and on about how wonderful it is to live here. Do some research and talk to people and maybe even come to see it yourself.

nice to meet you! my husband also considers moving to Ridgewood. i used to go to work in mahwah, route 17 is so congested on weekdays and saturdays. do you go to work? how's the commute to the south? my husband works in Nutley. I'd like some relatively new houses, but that's hard to find in northern jersey.

My name is Allison, nice to meet you. Where do you live now? If you want newer house, you might want to consider Fair Lawn, north or 208 is much better than south of 208. I do work, but I start at 11am. I leave my house at 10am, at that time is not so bad. There are a lot of alternative route if 17 is back up. It's not that bad, I take GSP, or local. We bought a older house, new house in Ridgewood is way out of our pirce range plus the property tax. If you want to shop around without contact Realtor, you should go to this website (www.njmls.com). It will give you basic information about price of the house (town) you desire.
There is also a chinese supermarket by River Edge, I go there all the time. Drop me a mail if you need any other information. [email protected]

Thanks for the info. I used to go to that supermarket (金豐) too! but i haven't gone there since my second baby was born. I live in Edgewater, very close to the japanese market. Is property tax also expensive in Bergen county? I thought hudson county is very expensive (2%), how about bergen?

FYI, for New Jersey moms who lives in Bergen County. There is a small Japanese grocery store in Ridgewood. You can get Japanese rice, soy sauce, tofu....ect. Basic Asian stuff there. I know I can't live without my Japanese rice.

where in NJ do you live? I know of a few grocery stores in northern NJ. if you live near Edison, I'm sure the big grocery stores have it.

Actually, I am living in KY, but there is no 八珍甜醋. Fortunately, one of my friend will go to NJ this weekend (8/17-18) and he will stay in Edison.

both are large grocery stores. I suggest you to call ahead and make sure they have it first. I know some stores don't stock enough.

I've been to Edison only once. Good luck finding the vinegar! hope the info helps.
