Most of the daycare only accept 18 months and up. There may be a few will accept 12 months, but you have to sign up now because it has a long waiting list.
Also depends what your working schedule. If you need someone to take care of your baby on the weekend or before 7AM or after 6PM, you may be better get a babysitter.
Depending where you live. Hard to recommand a daycare for you.
Ah-ma,
what you want to know about daycare? I have put my daughter in family daycare as well as group daycare. She was in daycare since she was 13months old. Personally I dont like to have a stranger to come to my house and I prefer sending to daycare as I like my child able to interact to other children.
In my opinion, you need to concern how much you can earn from the job, how is the health of your child as he/she will explore to a new environment. What is your working hours as most daycare has limited time for drop in and pick up. How clean/hygeniece the daycare/person will be as baby can get sick very easily.
It is not a YES or NO answer as there is lots of thing you need to concern.
As you know, the daycare centre will include the baby food or not? And the fee will cheaper if the baby no need to use diapers?
Can you tell how much you have spend for daycare when your child 13 months?
I am also scheduled to take my baby into daycare centre but as you mentioned if the fee is much more then the salary then I will take care baby by myself.
M-m,
Food, it depends on the daycare as it is high risk with hygence as well as allgery issue. I prefer to prepare bring my own food as I know my daughter's favourite. Usually I pack the lunch box from previous dinner or just sandwich.
Diaper, you need to bring your own anyway, so it is no different but many daycares require you to be potty trained before 3yrs as the fee is much less for older kids.
when I first put my daughter in daycare, I chose the Chinese family daycare as it is enroute to my work and close to public transport. We paid $600/month without receipt, so at the end, we cannot claim anything from the govt except the milk allowance. Mind you, I am in Vancouver, so it may different from Toronto in terms of taxes. If I put my child in official daycare which I am planning to do it for my new born child this JUN, I know it will cost about $1000/month but I can claim it as expense and deduct from my earning income...but since it is too far ahead, I havent really thought it now.
Besides that, finding a good daycare is a big concern as you need to see if the kids are happy there, the place is clean and what type of activities they will provide for kids. It is not just the cost.
You could get a list of daycares in York region from here. When I was looking for daycare for my son before, I picked out the ones that was convenient to me and then call them for information and then went to check the place out. You really have to go and see the place before you make your decision. Mind you that a lot of them have waiting lists. Anyway, I ended up putting my son with a babysitter at her home from 11 months after all these work.
How did you find the babysitter? I live in Markham area.

Hi Ah-ma and M-m,

If I decide to leave my child in babysitter at her own home, should I look for a babysitter who look after only my child or more than one at the same time? I am afraid if she is by her own she will be lonely. but if the sitter takes care of more than 1 child would she be too busy?? can't really take care of my child?? My baby is going to be 1 yr old when I drop her off.
Maybe you can try to this website for home care option. http://www.yorkprofessionalcareandeducation.ca/HomeChildCare.php
My friend is using their service and she loves it. You have to pay a $35 registration fee, then you can search the home care provider. Before they put up the list, they do screening for all the provider, make sure they have license, and they will do surprise check on them to make sure the consistency. So maybe you can try that option. I couldn't utilize that since I am living in North York and I want to find something close to my area.
