My daughter is 18 months old and we just went to Tokyo with her in the beginning of July. Absolutely no need to bring birth certificate. Passport and ID card will do. Also, we live in Beijing, so whenever she enter and exit the PRC, just need to present China Return Card. To enter and exit HK, she needs to present her HK re-entry permit. Nobody cares her birth certificate, even if she was born in Beijing
