I always hear about these 2 tests in HK. but in the US here, my ob doctor only told me i need to do first trimester blood test, nuchal ultrasound (NT) and second trimester blood test. those help detect down's syndrome etc. So are these same as those oscar/nifty tests??

I think Nifty is relative new in US and most insurance won't cover for it, although it claimed that the accuracy should be 99%. However, the combined results of the all the tests that you mentioned to be done in the first and second trimester is not very accurate as those are "screening" tests only.

Is Oscar a term used in HK? It might be referred to the combined results of all the tests that you mentioned to be done in the first and second trimesters.

thanks for taking the time to answer my question again! your advice is always very helpful!

so may i ask what kind of tests you have done? i plan to do all the screening tests and avoid the invasive ones.

also what's a good website to buy all maternal stuff or any local one-stop shop such as carseat, milk pump and clothes? i only know baby-rus.

我估美國呢度冇OscarR或者Nifty呢兩個Terms？我聽香港朋友講Oscar係度頸皮，睇BB頸厚度去評估有冇down syndrome，我有朋友個家姐陀第二胎就係話頸皮超過指定厚度，所以最後唔要得，因為幾乎九成機會係有問題。

我自己個細女都就7歲，當時係高齡產婦，當然醫生會建議抽羊胎水，但我老公反對，所以冇做到，但1st Trimester有做過驗血同ultra-sound，咁其實同度頸皮差不多，都係睇下BB各個器官發養成點，有冇異樣？另外加上做驗血，對比結果，出個數據有幾多個％係正常。2nd Trimester我唔記得有冇咁做，因為如果都去到2nd Trimester，唔好聽真係唔要得好大機會要引產，所以醫生大部份都會要求第三個月就要做呢類測試，早D都有，就係伸工具入去做絨毛測試，但BB太細有存在危險。

I bought most of my stuffs in target, Target carry most of the things that you can find in babies r us. Sometimes Target only have it online but not in the store.
For me I went babies r us and check on the things I want to buy first to then make a list. Then compare the price of those things in target and babies r us website before purchase! And if you make a baby registry in target, they will send you coupons for better discount later before your baby due day! I bought most of my things with the 20% off coupon after my baby shower done!

Plus, Target has quite good return policy and customer service. Hope the info can help you :)

also, what kind of insurance do u have?

Usually most OB. docs. recommend 抽羊胎水 at 20 week for those who are 35+ as the accuracy is 99%. You can also do the NT ultrasound + 2nd round of blood test in 2nd trimester, but the combined result is for screening only, so it's not so accurate. As your age is getter higher, they will add your age to the formula to come up with the screening result with a higher risk.

As you also mentioned about the Nifty (non-intrusive diagnostic blood test), you can ask if your insurance will cover for it and how much. Its accuracy is supposed to be much closer to the result of 抽羊胎水. But it's still pretty new in US!

Oscar is the first trimester blood test with NT scan. Nifty is only available in HK in which blood sample is sent to a lab in China. The same test in US is called T21/Panorama (these are the same tests done by different labs in US).

interesting! my doctor didn't mention anything about T21. my first trimester blood test with NT scan is good. low risk. so the next step is the 2nd trimester and anatomy ultrasound. if everything is great so far, how likely will those two give any problem?

There are different types of second trimester blood test (depends on the lab) which will provide different detection rate along with the result of the first trimester test. But in general the combined results should have over 90% detection rate.

T21 is only offered to high risk pregnancy. If your first blood test and NT scan plus your age result in high risk, you might be able do the T21.
