My helper told us last night that she has been granted a USA Visa and she has to go there within these few days.

For me, my family love this helper, and we all know that we cannot offer what she can get in USA. As she will get marrage there, she will get our blessing. Its really a hard time for her too, so that she does not want to tell us beforehead.

I have 2 questions:

1. What is the fastest way to get a replacement? and how long will that be?
2. This is the most important question, as she has taken care of my family for more than 5 years now, my son loves her very much (taking care of him since he was born). Its really hard to take care of his feeling i think. Even it is hard for me and my another half also, we did cry for that coz she is just like a family for us. We have told my 5 yrs old son last night, he knows the helper will go to USA but he has no idea that he cannot see her anymore. He just keep on asking when she will back and saying that he does not want a new helper as she will be bcak. My husband will take a week annual leave. We are so lost. We do not know what to do. Anyone has similar case? how you tell your kid? especially if they have very good relationship?

Hi, just want to voice out my opinion....understanding that u hv a good relationship with yr maid and hard for yr son to hv this change.....but one thing u can think...if yr maid really loves your family, she should not just have left within few days by giving u just short notice... she is such a irrresponsible person....If she informed u earlier, at least u both sides would hv a smooth transaction period, not like now, messing up your life.....So no need to be unhappy for such maid. Instead, u need to start looking for assistance like temporary local helper etc.....good luck....

I understand your feeling since my ex-maid (2 years ago) also resigned by giving me only 3 days' notice. My housework is heavy, I know, but my family treated her really good though.

Anyway, my current maid who is going to finish contract on 15/1/2008 has all "acceptable" characteristics. I shall send her to you for interview.

However, she and I are very busy in these 2 days to fix all housework before she leaves. Therefore, please call me at 9141 4489 on 15/1/2008.

I know that she handle this situation in a really bad way. As I know here, she is a very shy person and does not know how to express herself. I am not angry about her. Actually, I understand her, she is just so stuipd that she thinks if the notice is really short the hard feeling is less for both of us...As she wants to go to USA and will have better life there, she 100% get our support....

But my point is that its really difficult to take care of my son's feeling...I am not sure that if he understand that real case or not...it just happening really fast and even hard for adult to handle, he is just a small kid...

Thank you Marry, I will call you if i needed. but this is just technical...Can you share the experience of the last time? say, how you've talked to your kid and what kind of reaction they had...and what should we do to comfort my son...
