Preparation for milk storage before back to work

I have many questions about the milk storage and supply for my bb after i go back to work on 3 May:

1) When should I start to store the milk? (I feed my baby everyday and have not store any, even if i have pump out some, i will feed him in the same day); also I don't know the volume he take on every feeding

2) How much should I store every day?

3) What can I do if I can't pump out the volume mentioned in (2)?

4) How can I clean the pump after the 1st pumping and have the 2nd pumping?

5) Should all the pump milk storage in the freezer and not the refrigerator?

6) What else should I take care of ?????

Thanks in advance for the advise from all of you ............ : )

My BB's information: born 26 Feb 04 with a weight of 3.24 kg, and he is now 5kg................ : )

Reb... I think I can give some advice for your questions :

Answer to 1): you should store whenever you have surplus...breastmilk can generally store for 24 hours in the refrigerator (so you may mark down the time)... but if you keep it in the freezer which is not opened frequently, it can store for up to 3 months (but usually I will just store them for a month only to play safe!) If you want to know how much your baby is taking for each, you may need to start using bottle to feed him, at least during the daytime, one or two weeks before you go back to work...

2) That depends on how much surplus breastmilk you have...

3) You may need to keep your pumping time closer and drink more water/fluid to increase your flow.

4) You may prepare a container of sterilization water to soak the breastpump and then rinse it with boiled water before usage.

5) You may keep just enough breastmilk for a day in the general compartment of the refrigerator and then store the surplus in the freezing compartment before it requires time to defroze the milk... before you use the frozen milk, you just take it out from the freezer and then keep it in the general compartment of the refrigerator for defreezing...

6) You will have to purchase some ice packs and a ice bag冰箱/冰袋 for taking the breastmilk back home from the office.

Hope my advice will help... BTW, I will also pump milk for my young girl when I go back to work later this month, but I am just thinking of pumping one time only.... Let's work hard together

Thanks for your advise.

For the volume he take, does you mean that I have to try an error to find out? I have give him 4oz before, one time he can last for 2 hours, but one time he ask for milk again in 1 hour

In my office, there is only distilled water, can i use these as boiling water to clean?

I know this is the only the start of our bf road, added oil to all of you bf mom and let's work hard together!!!!

Yeah, you may have to trial and error at the beginning and then after some days, you will know the pattern of your baby's drinking habbit...My girl is taking Expressed Breastmilk most of the time (she only latch on during the mid-nite or early morning meal).. so I know her pattern...

The amount she drinks will vary from 3-5 oz... But I found that she usually drinks better after the evening. During the day, sometimes she will just take 2-3 oz.. but on average she is somewhere around 4 oz per meal... And as you said sometimes even if she is drinking about the same amount the duration will vary... but generally I know that she will sleep for 3 hours for 3-4 oz milk... but sometimes she will sleep for shorter or longer hours.. Of course the condensation of the milk will affect her duration for each meal... so even if I can pump out more than 1 bottle of milk, I will mix the two bottles a bit as the first bottle will contain more foremilk, which contains less fat.... Your baby is about the same weight as my girl... so you may start with 4 oz and add more if your baby can finish and ask for more.

1.可提早約兩星期開始儲奶，即約4月19日那一個星期開始。
2.建議你在早晨的一次邊餵邊泵，效果最好，若你每天能儲4安士，到上班前已經可以建立約60安士的庫存。
3.假如你想多儲奶或早晨的一次儲奶不多，也可以每一次餵奶都邊餵邊泵。
4.若在家最好每次都消毒奶泵，否則用完後放在冰箱下次用也可以，只要確保每24小時有消毒一次即可。
5.我是用奶瓶儲奶的，每次泵出來先放進雪櫃下格半小時至微凍，然後再放進冰箱。若奶瓶有空位，第二次泵的奶也是放進下格半小時，然後倒進冰奶中，但有效期是以最先泵的奶計起兩個月。

1. 可以把兩次泵的奶這樣儲存的嗎?
2. 你說你用奶瓶儲奶, 那你預備了多少個才足夠?
3. 我想問清楚新鮮奶, 冰奶, 冰奶放進雪櫃下格後各可以貯存多久?

1.我一直是用這方法，甚至三、四次的奶倒在一起也試過，只要注意微凍奶的份量不要超過冰奶的份量即可。
2.視乎你要建立多少庫存，我是有點非理性地儲了30瓶共250安士的奶，但其實大約12瓶100安士已很足夠了。
3.新鮮奶在雪櫃下格要48小時內使用，冰奶放進雪櫃下格解凍後要24小時內使用。
