Hi, I am finding a maid for my baby(5 months) as well, i used a very good maid for six years but she is going home. According to my experience and observation, can share with you my preference.
For myself， my 要求 for my new maid will be:

1. yanyan. (i feel philipino 不願捱, no good for new born, fBun or big kid is better)
2. must be married, must with own kids,(took care by the maid herself)
3. must has singapore experience as a maid, and experience took care employer's new born baby.(only took care children not counted)
4. must not has any experience in HK.(i rather to train a fresh maid with my own way, + i don't like a maid come with a mobile phone and already has good connection with their 工會)
5. Must has finished contract with last employer(s), if not, no matter what reasons, i won't consider at all.
6.can either communicate with me in one language.(exp. singapore usually can, either english or 國語, i don't mind she speaks no cantonese, they can earn so quickly.if she speaks good english, a bonus.
7. aged below 35.
8. as many bro and sister as possible, best to be the eldest in family.(this point is a bonus only)

Luckily i just phone interviewed a maid who meets all my requirments above. she is recommended by my existing maid, she just finished 4 yrs contract in Singapre and is now in Indonesia. i am waiting for her photos to look at, if not specially terrified, i will "direct hire" this maid.(not sure if this is called "direct hire": i will refer this maid to my agent and this maid will still join normal oversea pakage, including go to their school in Indonesia for three months to learn Chinese cooking and Cantonese)

Of course, you know, when she arrives Hk, and finally turn out to be good maid or not...all depends on our luck!!!

I have a experience to directly hire a bun and no need to spend time to stay in training school. ( I just need to pay $2,xxx handling fee). And the maid no need to pay 7 months loan to the agent. Of course, my maid was willing to pay only $2,xxx instead of 7 months loan. So, I pay no money for hire a direct maid

I have asked my agent and a few other agents.
They all recommend me to "refer the maid to their school".

They can do direct hire as you did, but the cost on me is a lot alot more expensive(join Pakage $1XXX-$3XXX, dire hire they quot $5000-12000). also direct hirre no 保障 to 僱主, they only help to do the documents send send the maid over, then finish, no school training, no body check in HK, no follow up, because this is not their maid and not trained by them。

They only good thing is that the maid do not need to pay 7 months loan.

I am very selfish that i don't care the maid need to pay loan, I think this actually can keep her work hard.

If I now join package, with my 指定 maid already agreed to enter the school for training for 3 months, so that she could learn chinese cooking and cantonese.
Also the package include tickets, body checks, insurance as usual, most important, i still can enjoy 兩年包換 even with my 指定 maid .

So i think this is the best choice for me.
