Please aware that, if you are using Win2000, and your battery is out of power, then, your PC cannot be started up properly. In this case, you check the battery first.

Do not buy any device if the wireless mouse is charged up by a cradle. In this case, you do not need to put battery into the mouse. I saw this kind of mouse before. And, the disadvantage is that you need to put the mouse back into the cradle when it is out of power.
