May I ask any mama have giving your 1.5 yr old child to have crayon to color books?
Is it safe or any other types of color pen is safe for them? Please advise.
When my boy was 2, I bought crayon to him. He "draws” almost everyday but I don't find 比較污糟 or 藏入手指甲as PINKAVA worried. Probably, PINKAVA confused the crayon is the kind of "立筆" we used in our primary school era. They are totally different indeed!
木顏色 may not be a good choice for young kids I think, as they cannot “draw” firmly on the paper actually, it’s near to "colorless". 木顏色 is good when the kids can draw in detail but crayon is good for young kids’ scribble.
Two more hints for u,
1. I suggest giving yr boy a larger paper (I give my son with A3 paper) then he has more space to scribble and not easy to make the table dirty. But more important is, you need to teach yr boy to do on paper only. (When my son was around 1.5, he picked his daddy's ball pan sometimes, and then I taught him drawing on the paper only. Now, he asks for crayon paired with paper and never scribbles on table or on the wall etc).
2. “Fatty” crayon is better than thin one. My son holds and controls the fatty one quite well but he always breaks the thin one!!!
If yr boy doesn’t “eat” toys, many of coloring materials are safety. IKEA has a drawing set contains many colors of crayon, “water pen” and木顏色 as I remembered selling at a reasonable price. You may want to hv one.
Thanks you all.
I have gone to have a look at City super and bought one but finally I notice that it state for +3yr up kids.
and each crayon without the paper surrounding.
Do I need to buy the crayon that with paper surrounding the crayon so that it's not easy to make dirty on my child's hands?
Any what's the difference of Crayon & 立筆? Thanks a lot.
hI start giving my baby crayons when she was about one. Sometimes she will put them in her mouth, but as I am always next to her when she is drawing, I will say NO immediately, and it won't be dangerous to her. I think 木顏色is worse, as they are quite sharp, and it may hurt the baby.....
Bascially we give everything to our daughter to draw with, crayon, ballpen, chalk, poster paint (with brush).
We think it is safe to let the children explore different kinds of drawings/paintings if
1. there is adult supervision
2. sufficient precautions: large size paper, plastic table cloth, children apron
3. always wash hands afterwards
We have also bought Pilot Gel Marker - plastic holder with refillable colours. As sheryl recommended, it is 好似臘筆,但唔污糟 ,效果非常好,好好寫,好易上色,細個的BB易控制,不用大力都很上色,小朋友會好有成功感,refillable. They are quite expensive though. We bought 12 markers with 20 or 30 refills, costing more than $200.
So at home we would use crayon, ballpen, chalk, poster paint at our girl's choice and will use the gel markers only outside for easier handling.

Hi Codychan
I also want to know where you buy the crayons. Or can you give me the brand of the craysons. Thank you.
I bought Crayola crayon, color pencil and water color, all non-toxic. I can only find Crayola crayon in Toysrus. I bought Crayola color pencil and water color directly from the distributor, 3/F Lockhart Centre, Wanchai. If you want detail addres, PM me.
My daughter is only 20 months, so I bought the thick one for her. Usually crayon and color pencil have different sizes, thicker one is better for younger kids.
You can also buy "Crayola" in ToyRus. Crayola is a famous brand in children arts materials. However, I like "Colorific" more for it's colours are brighter. I brought them in ToyRus before but I did not see this brand recently there. I've found another brand "Roseart" instead, not sure whether it's good or not.
You can also go to Stepping Stone in CWB. There is a promotion on "Alex" children art materials. Buy 3 get 1 free. I've brought 3 at $39 each(watercolour, postercolour),but not sure the prices have been marked up or not.Alex's crayons is only+-$20.
Actually most of the crayons from the famous brands are around $20 for 12 colours. If "CE" is printed in the packing, it's safe for children, but make sure the logo is not fake ,so products from those good brands are worthy to buy.
