Hi twingirls,

Thanks for your information. BTW, did you girls attend playgroup in the past or not? Or, just attended nursery after 3 years old? I am afraid my daughter may not fit into the nurery when she is 3 years old because she doesn't know much English to communicate. Do you think it will be a problem or not?

Thanks!

I live in South side of UK, near Bournemouth. My twin girls started play-school, when they were 2 yrs and 9 mths old, it cost £5 per session/each, at the first, they only went 2 sessions a week, then increase to 5 days a week, as you might know that I just talk to them English at home...........until now, but the were OK in pre-school, nursery was too expensive for us to take them there.............but don't worried, your daughter will be OK in pre-school..........where do you live??

I think I better wait until my daughter reaches 3 years old to attend pre school in a primary school then. If it's not really necessary, I don't want to join it. It's not so convenient to go to playgroup because I don't have a driving licence. Now, I learn to drive. I found out that UK has so many roundabouts that scare me a bit. Also, it's so strange that vehicles are allowed parking on roads if there's no yellow line. BTW, I live in NE of England near Durham. You live near Bournemouth which is in Dorset, right? I have never been to there before, so I don't exactly know where it is. Only know that it must be far away from my place. Otherwise, we can go out for tea. Ha!

In my living area, children have to attend school at/after 3 years old. Yes, our pre-school is also separated from that primary school we applied. They said my daughter must reach 3 years old to join that school. So, will you teach your girls Chinese? I really want my daughter knows Cantonese, so we speak to her mostly in Cantonese. I found out that my husband likes speaking in English for asking her doing things, but then I asked him to speak in Cantonese. My relatives said we should teach her more Cantonese and said my daughter will speak English fluently in school later. On the contrary, I'm afraid my daughter will get harder to learn English when she first enters the pre-school??? Ha! Silly me!

Do you know Durham? It's closed to the direction of Darlington, Newcastle, Sunderland or York. We may need to drive for 3.5 to 4 hours to Birmingham I think. Are there many Chinese in Dorset?

Roundabouts are so horrible in my mind, but if they're convenient to people if they drive the wrong ways. In my area, some roads are quite narrow. People mostly park their cars on both side, so sometimes it's hard to drive through. Sometimes, I am afraid I may crash with those vehicles. Ha!

My twins talk Cantonese and their twins language at home, sometime they talk Engliah, too. But I will tell tehm talk Cantonese, and my husband has poor English. They have went to Chinese for 2 yrs, after I have baby girl, I haven't take them to there, because it is too far away as you might know that have 1 more baby is quite busy. You relative is right, don't worried about your girl's english, as you might know that she will learn it at School. Yes, I know Durham, but haven't been there. Yes, many Chinese in Dorset, and we live in a small town, here also has chinese take away and restaurant........

I understand, I have been some narrow, the people like to park their cars in both side............

hi kidslittle,

most playgroup are just walk-in. fee are normally around £1-2 per session (usually 2-3 hours).

parents need to be at present during the session.

you can also look up "parents and toddler group" from you local council.
some churches do parents and toddler group a few times a week. you may check this out too.

try this link:
http://www.childcarelink.gov.uk/index.asp

or try your local council's website,
they normally have a full list of information about playgroup & toddler's group ..etc.

Hi Sasa,

Thanks for your info. Your website is quite useful. I can find out some fee of some schools on that website. How about your child? Will he attend school soon? For how many days per week?

hi kidslittle1,

你幫囡囡搵到playgroup未呀?

其實真係唔駛擔心小朋友學英文問題, 小朋友吸收力好強, 一返左學, 聽得多, 自自然然會慢慢開始講, . 正如我大仔...今年yr.1...返nursery之前...我都冇點教佢英文...only yes or no, some simple words. 返學後...依家成日同個細佬講英文...同2個表姐見面, 又係英名對答多. 不過, 喺屋企我會叫佢講番中文...同埋教佢中文生字....最重要自己個名點寫囉.

Hi littlepaco,

I think I better not to bring my daughter to attend playgroup now because I find that it's inconvenient to take her there. My husband will go to work, so I need to take her there by bus on my own. Also, my daughter is very active and is not willing to let me hold her hands or sometimes run away. Just like an "Untied Monkey." As you said 唔駛擔心小朋友學英文問題, 小朋友吸收力好強, 一返左學, 聽得多, 自自然然會慢慢開始講, so I think I am not quite worried now. Better wait until she can attend the nursery class in a primary school. I only need to walk for ten minutes to that primary school. Did your sons attend any playgroup at all?

Hi Kidslittle1,

Hi littlepaco mom,

Never mind for your late reply. I'm also afraid of my daughter runs away when I put her on the ground. So, we usually hold her, but she usually likes to make one of her shoes come off in order to make us put her down on the floor, then she will run away again. Very crafy! When we go to supermarket, she has never let us put her down onto the trolley too. As for the buggy, we rarely use it now because she will scream sharply and move her body that make us can't fasten her seat belt. So, I would prefer not to take her out on my own. Forgot to say, I called her YY and she is about six months younger than your little Matthew. Here is also 學校要足3歲至收. Therefore, I will wait until she reaches 3 years old to attend the nursery. Ha! Your little Matthew is also very active? Oh! 屋企成日假哥哥架??? Ha!
I found out that maybe my daughter is a girl, she is only too naughty in front of us. When she sees other strangers, then she will pretend to be an obedient person. Hope she will be obedient too when she attends nursery and I think I will let her to study for five half days in a nusery later. Don't want to take her to any playgroup now as it's so inconvenient to go. You need to take care of two kids. I think your time must be fully occupied by them, right? I got one kid, but she still occupy most of my time.

Hi kidslittle1,

Excuse me to interrupt you. I have a son who will become 3 years old in August. I noticed that you will wait for your daughter reaching 3 and send her to the local nursery for half day school. My question is how many hours do your region have for that half day school? I have checked my region. My son is entitled to 5 days x 2.5 hours each day school. I wonder does the same policy apply throughout UK?

Hope my question is not too late:;pppp:

yes, your son will entitle to get 5x2.5 hour of nursery session once he reaches 3year old. you will need to ask your nursery to claim it for you. (not all the nursery will do that).

some nursery won't let you just go for the 2.5 hour free session, like my son's nursery, morning session is 5 hours, so he will need to pay for the other 2.5 hour fee.

Hi RichMPoorM,

Ha...your nickname is so interesting (Rich & poor?). Yes, I am still waiting for my daughter to reach 3 years old to send her to nursery. As I know, the school in our region will offer us 2.5 hours per session. Today, I reached the stage of three months pregnancy. BTW, I don't know my baby's still growing healthily in my tummy or not as I've still not yet done the first Ultrasound scan. If everything is alright, then I don't know I can take my daughter to nusery during the first month of my second baby is born. It's pity that her nursery will start during the month of my due date. So, I may see if my daughter can delay her nursery for few months or not. So, will you send your son to chinese school too?

Thanks for your reply. I will arrange my son to the nursery coming September. I think it's good for him to mix up with more children.

kidslittle1, Rich and Poor, I inspire this name from the book Rich Dad Poor Dad. Have you read this book?
