I have the same case as yours! I got flu earlier this month and my milk supply has dried up substantially (from 10 oz to 4 oz each pumping session). I used up my stock in the freezer in just a week and was so worried (I have no formule at home at all, and I don't want to give up so early). But now, after some efforts, my milk supply has resumed, or even better than before. What I have done are:
(1) took 9 capsules of Fenugreek every day;
(2) pumped both sides at the same time (the "let down" reflex increases my milk production) - I have two Avent pumps;
(3) ate lots of red beans and drank lots of fish soup;
(4) woke up in 3am to pump;
(5) pumped before feeding in the evening (that's what Tam Mama suggests here).
Now, I can pump 30+ oz everyday. So, don't give up. The above really works.
I cannot locate "Fenugreek" from the web- Amazon,
can you please give me the full name of this, is it a vitamins? is it the name of the herb or the brands?
as i can ask my brother to buy in Canada
when he returns. * just in case my milk supply is dropped.
My friend bought me the herbal supplement (Fenugreek seed) in a health food shop on the first floor in Admiralty Centre. You can go there and check it out.
I have got the Fenugreek pills in Admiralty Centre yesterday, it's quite expensive ($178/100capsules). The brand is Nature's Way. Each capsule contains 610mg.
As per your experience, how long did you take the pills before it's effective? Do you stop taking the pills after you have reached the milk level you desire?
Dear Mon,
If you wish to buy this product, I think you may ask you brother to buy them for you in Canada, as I found that it's about US$5/bottle on the website. If you want to try the pills before you can receive it from you brother, you may call me, I can give you some of mine.
I have taken the pills for about a week. In the first few days I took only 2 capsules x 3 meals, the effect was not apparent. On the fourth day I increased the dosage to 3 capsules per meal, then I observed a gradual increase in milk production. I stopped after the 8th day. Well, because I have done so many things to boost up the milk supply (as I listed below), I can’t really distinguish whether it is the pills making the difference or the others. But anyway, I am happy with the result.
I have gone through exactly the same as you are now. Yes, the result in the first few days may not be apparent, but don't give up! Keep on trying, the milk flow will then resume gradually. Let's be patient and believe in how the nature works. We all stand behind to support you!
In 1945, an Egyptian researcher reported that fenugreek is a potent stimulator of breastmilk production. In fact, its use was associated with increases in milk production of as much as 900%. (2) The mechanism of action is unknown. Rima Jensen, MD, suggests that fenugreek may affect milk production because the breast is a modified sweat gland, and the herb is known to stimulate sweat production. (4) We have been recommending fenugreek for six years whenever a mother's milk production is determined to be low.
