i heard that 賓賓 like to go canada as once you help them to get the domestic helper visa, they will be able to apply for migration after 2 years. as most of the 賓賓 got good qualification and english is their mother language. they will be able to get a much better job than the nanny.
so you will have to prepare to loose the maid in 2 years time.

I am in the process of getting a Filipino nanny from HK. You need to submit an application to the government, once they approve it your nanny can take your offer (a contract) and apply for work permit. She will have to get health and police check etc...the whole process takes a few months so you should start asap.
I have a question: in HK, domestic helper has a fixed monthly salary. I like to know if Canada have such 'fixed monthly salary' rate or is they pay according to or at least following the legal minimum hourly pay?
depends on the city you live in, there is a minimum hourly rate. I think for Markham and Richmond Hill, the minimum hourly rate is $9.25

just courious, will the 賓賓 stay with you? if so, how does the hours counts? here 40 hrs is the standard working hours, and hours over to the standard need to pay 1.5. so does it meant, 賓賓 only work 8 hrs a day?
and during the night time, no need to work - so if they did not look after the kids at night time, you could not complaint about it? or if they did so, will they got overtime pay? just being nosy.
My nanny stayed with me. I told her before I applied for her to come, the work hours will be flexible. I give her a work schedule for the week. Each day she will do a major task, like vaccum, washroom cleaning, kitchen cleaning, or grocery shopping etc. The rest of the day will be just preparing 3 meals, laundry, ironing, and clearing tables after meals. Their work can be finished roughly within 8-9 hours. As long as she finishes the housework and be available during meal times, I don't care what she does during those free hours. She can sleep, watch TV, chat on her cell phone, go for a walk etc. So, I don't pay her overtime.
Usually she works from 7 to 7, but she has lots of free time during the day. Of course, if she works slowly by choice and take her time to do things, like taking 4 hours to prepare for the meal, that's her choice and I still won't pay her overtime.
Hope this clears the mystery.

It really depends on how you bargain with her before she come to Canada. In my case, I told her that she have to work from 7 to 8 since both of me and my hubby have to work and she has to take care of my toddler. We told her we would offer her a lumpsum amount. She is ok with that. OF course, she would ask for a raise and you have to prepare for it. Since her performance is ok so we give her $200 extra starting from the second month and round trip ticket back home as incentive. We didn't give her any fix schedule for what she has to do so if she finish the house cleaning chore and my toddler is napping, she can rest as well.
Generally, what I heard from my agent is, if you used to have that nanny when you are in HK, you can apply her to come over working for you directly. But I am not sure the detail.
