Sorry to hear about baby's illness. I have gone through a similiar situation as you, but a little bit difference. My girl, who is now 17 months old, was found suffering congential bowel atresia (先天性腸阻塞) when whe was borned prematurely (only 35 weeks), of course she was under weight. She had gone through a 4 hours+ operation when she was only 3 days old and I was told 1 more operation is needed. This August, she had another operation, but unfortunately, it wasn't turned out as we hope to be, therefore, another operation will be needed in next.
For me, it was heart breaking when she gone through all this operations, but the joy for seeing her grow up and learned all the new things. All the hard time my husband and I had gone through means nothing now.
With my previous experience, I will suggest you, for all medical related questions, please talk to your doctor, I think he will give you some viable advices. Also, you may also search the web for more medical advice about your baby's illness.
Instead, I would suggest you to think of how you want your baby be treated, if you want to send him to public hospital, you may not be able to see him/her everyday. If you want to go private, he can have better care, but the expenses is the amount you never think of ($$$$$$$$). Afterall, having a baby is the must joyful experience that I ever have even though I have lost my job, and use most of my money.
If you want to have someone talk to, you can email me.
