My girl went to nursery since Aug this year, she seems adopted after 3 weeks and willing to go to school till last week after she returned school from 2 days sick leave. Now she start crying in the morning when the maid is puting on her uniform. She even gets upset when passing by the way to school. The teacher called me asking what happen to her as she may cry suddenly in the class for the past few days. Any mummy had the same experience?
Did you ask her why she didn't want to go to school? My boy said he missed daddy and mommy so much that he didn't want to go to school. Therefore, I told him that it's okay to miss daddy and mommy and even to cry a bit (don't deny his emotions) but not for long otherwise he would miss out all the fun stuffs and I assured him that I would pick him up when he had finished "LAYING" at school. (say positive things about the school). When my boy whined "Not going to school!" every morning, I just ignored him and got him to leave the house as quickly as I could. I would try to stay calm, not to lose my temper. (Make him realise that he has to go to school, no-matter-what). On the way to school, I would point to the people who was waiting for the bus or walking on the street and told him that everyone needed either to go to school or to work. After 3 weeks of trying, he told me yesterday, "School is fun", although he still whines and cries a little when he goes to school every morning. I know my mission has not been completed yet, I still have a long way to go. But I know things will work out finally.
SzeWing,
How old is your girl? My girls is 27 months and have the exact same experience. When she returned to school in September, she had no problem. Wave bye bye to me and run to the toys. Then after 3 weeks, she all in a sudden cried in the middle of the day and began to refuse to go to school. It lasted about 1 week or 2. During the period, I stayed calm and talked a lot about the positive things in school. When I dropped her off to school in the morning, I will give her a big kiss and wave bye bye to her cheerfully. She may be crying but that's ok.
Now, she returns to normal and no fuss at all.
Once they realize they have no choice and mommy always come back, they will be fine. It will be easier if they have a special teacher whom they like a lot.
btatb38 and Yukimommy,
Thanks both for your sharing...my girl is almost 23 months...i also did the similar positive things as you did, but i found she does this every time she returns to school after a few days of sick leave..so i guess it's just normal for kids at this age...hope she will get over it soon...Thanks a lot!
