My indo maid came in Nov/2008, the first day she came she already coughing, and in last month, she started coughing again, so she went to see doctor (the 4th time after she came, and everytime is because of coughing! she said it's because HK is cool weather), the doctor still gave her common medicine for cold. but she keeps cpughing sometimes in this 1 month, only at night, so yesterday, I brought her to see another doctor, the doctor asked us to bring her has X ray, afraid of having 肺結核 because she cough too long time and she is from indo! the report will come out tomorrow afternoon....

after taking the x ray, she was crying and said very afriad, cos some maids in her maid school also had 肺結核 but who can still stay in the schooll! that means everyone in the school, including the ones waiting to come to HK, also have chance to get 肺結核!!!! what a responsible agent and school!

we asked her to stay in the agent boarding house until the report came out.....

we are so afraid, cos I have a 2 year old boy and a new born baby at home only 7 weeks old!!!

actually when she was sick again in last month, I talked to her if she can still handle to take care of my children, she then signed a resignation letter to me to give 1 month notice (will be effective tomoroow!) but my husband said we may not find another okay maid, so i only keep her letter but decided to keep her. Now, I am thinking:

1. if she is really 肺結核, can I just say the letter is effective and fire her tomorrow and no need to pay extra 1 month to her?

2. if she is not 肺結核, only having a cold or something, do you suggest me to fire her too, cos she always sick and see 5 times doctor in 5 months? (her main duty will be helping to take care of the baby girl, my mother will help her at least half day, but she will still be alone with my baby...... her housework is okay, but taking care of baby is still learning.....)

what to do???? pls give comment!

佢呢幾個月都睇緊醫生，你要果張辭職信生效，會有風險佢告你響佢病時迫佢辭職，你要三思！
如果最後証明佢只係普通傷風感冒，同埋佢寫既離職理由合理你先考慮係咪要咁做啦。

for these few months, she went to see doctor once a month, all because of flu only... in the resignation letter, she only mentioned that she thinks she is not able to handle the job for us.... anyone give us more advice?

Actually, only x-ray cannot tell u whether the maid have TB or not. She need to give the "mucus" sample. There are a few types of TB. For one type, just see the 'mucus' under microscope and then can tell u whether it's this type of TB immediately. For the other type, the mucus sample has to be cultivated for two weeks, then they can tell u whether it's the other type of TB.

Don't risk, for your baby's health, use your letter. Also, its better to dismiss her before u know that she has TB, otherwise, you may be in trouble for firing her because of her sickness.

If u want to know more about TB. U can call up the public "Chest" clinic and tell the receptionist that u want to talk to the nurse. Then, the nurse will tell u some knowledge about TB.

As far as I know, TB is very common in Indonesia. Good luck.

First of all, calm down.

Are you sure that your doctor is testing her for TB or pneumonia? There is a big difference.

If the doctor is only taking an X-Ray on her, then the doctor is probably suspecting her for having pneumonia as long term coughing is also one of the symtom.

As for TB, there is a quick skin test can be done on the patinet's forearm. Did the doctor do that?

Lastly, TB would not be contaneous once the treatment has started. Should you really worry about it, then you can go to a private pratice doctor and ask for a quick test to be done.
