not sure if you have your own flat or not. if so
1. cut all the utilitity bill, phone billed and so,
2. for the bank credit card and bank account, sugguest you keep it open as you might not be able to get the credit card right away in Ontario
3. inform postal office for re-direct all your mail (in case of any)
4. if you are working in 2008, file all your income tax and paid it all to the gov't before you leave HK
5. if you are planning not to return to HK, file your request to withdraw your MPF fund.
6. if you have had a car and HK driver license, make sure they are valid, and bring them over as it will help you to get the Ontario licence without waiting, and the car insurance policy that you had in hk will help you to reduce the premium here in Ontarion(not much, but will help)
not sure which month you will be in Ontario,
1. down jacket, hat, gloves 7 scarf is a must
2. wollen socks to protect your feet.
3. suggest you buy the snow boot once you arrive Ontario and it will be more appropriate than those you bought in HK..

if you are first time to land- no need to pay tax for those jellewery if they were purchase over 6 months.
i did bring along my "lung-fung" bracelet over- i took the photo for all the jewllery and put them in a folder together with my packing list. goods to follow lists
get the immirgation to stamp on those paper to "sort" of certify these were come with me at the first time of landing to avoid any dispute later on when I passed the immigratiion
