What is the purpose of the air vent and tube and can they be removed?
The air vent (which comprises the silicone valve with the anti-bubble tube) is there to prevent colic. The silicone valve prevents the build-up of vacuum inside the bottle which is the main source of colic problems. This part must be used in the bottle at all times.
The anti-bubble tube directs the air to the top of the bottle (when inverted) which prevents bubbles from mixing with the liquid. Bubbles can cause stomach aches until the age of 3-4 months of age. The tube can be removed once the stomach aches are over.
