May I ask you that in Vancouver is very difficult to find a job? I'm planning to immigrate either Vancouver or Tronoto. It's depends on the job market.
We came back to HK about a year ago, I agree with sunmoon that we should let our children to learn Chinese at young age. It's very difficult to learn after 5 yrs old.
Do you miss Canada? I miss Vancouver's scenery and food.
I also back to HK few years and my baby will born next year mar 2005. I also plan let's him stay at HK to learn some chinese then back to Vacouver study. Yes ar, Vancouver is a good place to live, but not a place to earn money. Vancouver market getting better all because of immigarate, so I feel it's difficulty to live there and earn a little lor. Everything so expensive. But I also missing their food ar. Yummy Yummy
I really miss the scenery and the food very much. Everytime on the way I went home, the trees are all around my house, the beautiful snow mountain at the north, and you can see the Sakura just on the street you lived. When they are in blossom, so many people says that it's much pretty than Japan. I love the milk with Ginger juice at 何源記, and the "all you can it" japanese food. So are you also planning to send you baby to study on grade 5 or 6 ? But my friend also swings back from there let's her son go to International School and remind me that need to accompany the kids to study here, and actually I'm not sure I will go with, but my sister-in-law and mother-in-law are there. That's maybe a real problem to me.
So tiktikbaby you will deliver you baby in HK, right?
I plan to send my sons back to Canada when they are in high school, my elder son is now studying in international school (ESF) but I haven't decided if my younger son will go to local or intl school yet.
lichee,
if I am still in Vancouver, I would prefer putting my son to a private school which cost about C$1,000 a month. It seems nothing here but in Canada, it's a lot of money especially if you compare it with your after-tax income. Unless you go to a good public school(not too many now), most schools are not up to standards and lots of bullying happened in schools. I am not trying to 'pour cold water' on you, it's just my personal opinion.
Yes I will deliver in HK ar, cuz' my hubby at HK ma. And the main point is I don't want to quit my job. hehe
Hm....I love to eat Vietnam food there ar. I can't find any at HK can be better than there lor. Sashimi is cheap and fresh, I juz back and visit my friend there few months ago, I ate so many great food, but also spent so much. Everything not cheap compare to HK. But I always feel their style and quality is better than HK, so I still brought alot haha. PPl said I am crazy.
I also will send my child back to Vancouver study when they ar at High school, I don't expect their chinese is good, juz want them can read.
Gum sunmoon, how's old is your child now? ar they doing fine on their education here?
My daughter is 2 years and 2 months old and studing in the nursery class, we are now looking for the K1 for her. She is an super active girl that makes us exhausted all the times, that's why I put her to the nursery while her age reached 2 years old
wbmom,
So how's your son in ESF ? Why don't you also let your younger son go to this school ?
lichee,
when we came back, my elder son was already 4.5 yrs old, he didn't know any Chinese characters so he has to go to intl school. My younger son is going to be 2 later this months, so I think he can learn a bit of Chinese at local kinder before we decide whether he is going to local or intl primary school. You know if he can get into a good local school, it will save a lot of money for us.
Tiktikbaby
you are so lucky! I wish to go back for food and do a bit of shopping(actually I prefer goling to Bellingham or Seattle to shop). I see what you mean, I like the vietnamese summer dip roll, don't think the one in HK is as good. I like Tai Shan in Richmond and also the one in Pacific Centre's food court.
Some of the food I miss:
The Memphis Blues- BBQ
Dem's Bones- montreal ribs, caesar salad
Koon Lok-stone-fish soup, BBQ duck, rice pudding
Ho Yuen Kee-crab on gluten rice, double-boiled milk
Sun Shui Wah-King Crab
The Keg-Steak
The Guu's at Robson Street
etc etc
Accepting the free education here is our right, it also really can save a lot of money that you can take other interest class. You can arrange some mandarin class for your elder son here.
Ribbon,
Hello!Have you applied the citizen card or any documents for your new born baby?It may take more than 6 months.
Mind to tell me how to get the citizen card in HK? Cuz' I might back to vancouver when my baby aroun 9months, If I plan to appy that time, gum when I pass the boarding, my baby use what citizenship to go to vancouver lei? He only carry HK birth certificate. Don't know what to do.
The citizenship application can be done at the Consulate general of Canada, the form said normally take about 4 to 7 months for processing. You have to get the citizenship card first , so that can apply the canadian passport, but the passport just take 10 working days.
Address: 14/F Exchange Square Tower 1, 8 Conaught Place, Central Hong Kong

Fax:2847-7561
Phone:2810-4321/2847-7348(recorded message)
Website:http://www.hongkong.gc.ca. (you can download the application form form there)
Or you can also apply for the HKSAR Passort for your baby as well. I forget how long it take, but believe that would be much shorter than Canadian Passport( as you need to do the citizenship card first). anyway, I think the Canada consulate has some urgent travel docment service, can ask them directly.
I think passport is international travel documents. I don't know whether it works if you only hold the citizenship card for import Canada.but when your baby come back or depart HK, the Passport also needs to be produced as the photo here to identify himself.
