Each airline have different restrictions on pregnant women. As the other mama said, some are 36 weeks some are 38 weeks some are only 28 weeks. But since there will be pressure to your tummy during the flight and also if something happened, you might not lucky enough to have a doctor on the plane to help you. It is true that don't get on the plane more than 28 weeks on the safe side.
which provinces you are landing? In Toronto, the grace (waiting period) is 3 months. i.e. if you landed in July 6, and your health benefit will kick in on Oct 6.
Carlew - for the family doctor - each visit need to pay CA$50.
for 檢查, not sure, as I do have that experience. Manulife (in Toronto) do offer medical insurance coverage for these 3 months waiting period for the newly landed immigrant - CA$180/month (fee as quoted in 2003 when I first came).
I did not buy such, as I don't think I will get sick for those period - even if I had, rather pay $50 each time.
however, you will need to check with manulife if your check up is cover or not before you go for the insurance plan.
where will you stay? should get the doctor closed by you..
Many thanks your treasure experience, I will stay at Toronto. Actually, my husband and I just got Visas this month. We planned to go to Toronto on coming Nov or Dec (2 weeks only) and will apply all related docs, say health card, etc. in this trip. Do you know any doctor in Toronto (Cantonese is preferable )?
Carlew
my family doctor is chinese but she does not take new patient any more.
last time I took my friend (visitor) to sheppard and Midland (I guess) - the chinese mall - "Hing Lung" there is a doctor clinic (male doctor) that takes walk-in patient.
guess other mum could give you more advice since you wish to give birth in Toronto, so I thought you need specialist for such....
Besides, I have a bad news .... As I planned to go to Toronto and will stay at my husband 表姐's home, but she told me that she will remove to USA on Aug.... Oh... No:-( . So, I may go to other city. Any suggestion? Say... have a good benefit (specially for medical), thanks.
carlew, they need 3 supporting document to prove your identity before they accept your application. As the newly landed people - the residential prove is an issue lor :-(
