I have 2 small dogs. I don't know how to do! They are sleep in my room every night, sometime they are so naunghty coz they do not "wee wee" on the newspaper...etc. I heard many people said that it is no good for new born baby to stay together! But They are stayed with me for 8 years ago. Who have any good suggestion?
I had a dog who was 14 years old, she was blind and had diabetes and I did the insulin injection 2 times a day for her, she slept in my room. I was also worried when I first got pregnant, I never thought of giving her up, I just worried if I put the baby bed in the room, how is she going to cope and who is giving her the injection during my delivery.
But 2 weeks ago, she had no appetite and didn't eat at all for 3 days, so I bought her to see the vet, she had to stay for observation and needed a drain, I went to see her after work. It is quite difficult for me as I had to wear a mask(there may be some disease from the sick animals) and wait for the room until no x-ray is on... I just couldn't help crying when I saw her so weak and no response even though I called her name... she was only quivering and looked very fragil... The Dr. told me that they couldn't find out the answers even after 1 weeks' observation(can be a million!!!), so they could still continue to do a lot of tests on her (this costs a lot and of course these were only tests!!), I asked her one question "Is she sufferered??", the Dr said probably and she also said it was not a wrong decision if you put her to sleep now as I had already given her 14 years of happiness.....I couldn't control myself but I have to think about my baby too..so I made up my mind there and put her to sleep......
I couldn't sleep for the following week, every time I went home and saw her things and photos, I will burst into tears...just imagine 14 years is not a short time....Sometimes when I sat down quietly and think, I guess my dog is doing a good job for me, her leaving would make me sad and unhappy for some time, but these unhappiness will soon be replaced by the joy of the arrival of my baby......All my friends agreed with that...
I have asked the doctor before whether keeping animals at home will do any harm to the baby, they said not, but of course you have to make sure you clean their wee wee and poo poo and wash your hand afterwards, or the best solutions is leave it to your husband to do it. Definitely, I will not suggest you to abondon your dogs, train them to do wee wee on the newspaper or rearrange your home so that they won't mess up the room..
I also have two dogs and I have never thought of leaving them. I consider them as my babies...so they are going to have a little brother in August! Someone suggested that you can give your baby's clothes for the dogs to smell before the baby is coming back to home.
My sister's daughter is 3 years old now and she is living with two dogs as well....everything seems fine. Don't worry too much.
