Most big reliable agents don't ask for deposit, they make flight booking first, send you the itinerary, and successfully book the hotels that you want, then they will ask you to pay by a deadline. As most hotels and airlines set a deadline of payment, so there's no hurry to pay before you have bookings made. Except for EGL, which they expect deposit first, but they will refund it if they can't make the booking you want.
This one is well known for "deceiving". I knew this for at least 10 years. It still survives in this market as people are 貪便宜
My situation is as same as u but the travel agency is 實 x 旅遊. I also feel very angry and unhappy. So, I will not buy the backage from the small agency again.
You're correct. These two are "black" shops. I almost got trapped by 實x about 7 years ago. Its shop in CWB looked big and grand, but then their tricks were the same as I experienced with X怡 and Man x in Mongkok. They told me I made a deposit first, then made the reservation, and be given the tickets only at the aiport as those are group tickets blah blah........... Glad that I was awaken somehow, I didn't book with it at last.
What I experienced with Man X was I was trying to book toronto round trip tickets. I called in and their agent said there were seats and so urged me to come down. Then I was there, their staff told me that lower class fare wasn't available anymore, I had to top up another HKD2xxx . This happened almost 1x years ago when I was still a student, that extra HKD2xxx was significant. I did buy it at the end, but later on found out these were tricks. So I never believed in those agents anymore.
In fact, those big travel agents, such as Lotxx, Westxxxxxx, Winxxxxxx, Edmxxx were reliable and not as expensive as booking with the airline directly. They need not payment at all. So convenient!
