Question: Additional or replacement? Please help!

I am about to fire my second maid and get a new one to replace her.

In the application to the Immigration Department for a new maid, I have to fill out whether the new maid is an "addition" or a "replacement". If she is an additional maid, I need to explain why she is needed. If she is a replacement, then I need to tell Immigration the termination date for the old maid.

Since I don't want to fire my current maid (or even let her know my intentions) until her replacement has arrived (so instead of giving her a month's notice I am going to pay her a month's salary plus ticket to go home) will the new one technically be an "addition"? Or should I say that she is a replacement but termination date yet to be determined? It may not matter but I do need the new one quite urgently and don't want to delay things unnecessarily....

應該係 "replacement"，而舊工人既 "termination date" 就係 "date of arrival of the new maid"。

你自己搞，唔係經 agent 咩？

不過，如果你想新工人到任個日先炒舊工人，你就要比多一份 levy。如果想將舊個份 transfer，好似一定要預先(唔記得幾耐，好似3個星期)炒舊工人。我而家個工人就係咁比多一份levy ($2400)，打去入境處，佢地話唔夠人手可以做到即時銜接

Yes, I am doing it myself and not through agent - hopefully it will work out - I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Do I need to continue paying the levy on the maid I have fired? I only paid six months' worth of levy ($2,400) and by the time I fire the maid she will be four months into it so I guess I effectively "lose" $800 - not ideal but no better way lah!

This levy is so stupid. All these rules were invented to make money from us but in the end they probably created more work and placed a much bigger squeeze on their resources than the levy itself justified. I guess this "stupidity" is consistent with all the other stupid features of the current foreign domestic helpers rules!
