It depends on how many AV inputs of your TV. If It has two, that is ok. If it only has one, you can use a switch box to switch between DVD recorder and VHS recorder.
I can connect my vhs recorder and dvd recorder to tv via "serial connection". There is no need to use a RF splitter in order to use the two recorders to record tv programs.
