tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to methyldopa, sulfites, or any other drugs.
tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially haloperidol (Haldol), levodopa (Larodopa, Sinemet), lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid), other medications for high blood pressure, tolbutamide (Orinase), and vitamins.
do not take with iron supplements or vitamins containing iron.
tell you doctor if you have or have ever had kidney or liver disease, including hepatitis or cirrhosis.
tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking methyldopa, call your doctor.
if you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking methyldopa.
you should know that this drug may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery for 48-72 hours after you begin to take methyldopa or after your dose is increased.
