My maid arrived for a year and she is just like a mess. Lying, aruge with us (my mom, my daughter and myself), can't cook ....
I was so mad yesterday morning as she turned on the washing machine in a wrong way. She did break one washing machine already. So, I and my mom did scold her for a bit and htne left for work.
At about 10am, my mom called and told me that the maid called the police and complained that she got attack by my mom. What a nightmare. I have to rushed back from an important meeting.
Realized that my mom passed her a bottle from front to back (the maid stand at the back of my mom) but the maid didn't get it but got her lip (minor injure). In fact, my mom not sure she hurted herself purposely or not. My mom was sitting down and she was standing at the back. She then cried. My mom said sorry to her as she was not intended to do so. She locked herself in the bedroom and made several calls. Then, act like crazy and laft the house. My mom tried to hold her but she is much stronger than my mom.
My kids were so scared. After a while, police came up. My mom and 2 kids had to go to police station. When I arrived the police station, they just returned my kids but kept my mom. I asked the police about my maid and they claimed that she was brought to QE for medical check.
At about 2pm, I called the police station and asked when can my mom back home. The police said they are waiting for the maid return to police station as she already left the hospital (of course la, just aminor injured). I called at 3pm again and the police didn't show up. Called at 4pm again, maid not shown. We tried to call her phone but she got the phone numbe changed already without letting us know.
During that couple hours, I called the agent but agent was surprised to know that. I did call labour dep and they told me I can't terminate the contract until the case got closed. I mentioned that I worried about the safty of my family and require not to let her back home but will find a hotel for the maid.
The labour law told me that I cannot do that as I was reliable for her safty by the contract term. I questioned if my kids got hurt by the maid, who should take the libility? Then she redirect me to call immigration office. You know the it took almost an hour to contact a personnel of immigration office. The guy that told me that I had to call labour dept. I cann't control myself and yelled that you guys are fooling me around. Finally, he kept me on hold and asked me to fax immigration office an request form for letting the maid not stay at my home.
At around 5pm, I called the immigration dept hot line, the office got closed already!!!
Then, called police and they still cannot get in hold with the maid. I was very very mad and questioned why they let the maid left the QE by herself but not escort her to the police station. The police replied that the maid is not a criminal. Then, how about my mom. I told the police if they get in hold with the maid, please call me up.
At around 5:30, I called the police station as I planned to give medication to my mom. Police told me that I couldn't as my mom is a suspected and the maid waiting for an interpreter. I yelled why no one called me and they blamed that they are busy. Also, I asked where will the maid stayed tonite and the police told me to contact labour dept. It was closed already man!!!!! They realeased my mom at aboutn 6:30 and hey promoised called me after record-check with my maid but until 8pm, I got no call. I called back but the CID are all left!!! SO irresponsble!!!!! I questioned if my maid came to my house, what should I do, the police said, I had to let her in by law! I complained that police should protect our safty and sure they bullshit around la and even told me to complain immg and labour dept wor!!!!
At 11pm, I faxed another form to immigration and labour law dept and updated that the maid didn't show up and cannot get hold with her. I am not responsbile for her safty.
My concerns and questions are:
1) my mom is an elderly and there are 2 kids at home. how can my mom dare to hurt the maid without others at home? In fact, my mom treats her too nice as she scared that the maid would hurt the kids for revengue.
2) My mom has to go to police station agin in August 27. From now on till then, do I have to pay her the salary?
3) If the maid didn't have plan, she won't be so smart and make the call before leaving home. If it is a major injured, she cried like crazy is reasonable but I can't image an minor injury can hurt her so much!!!! Then, have someone accompanied with her to police station after leaving QE. It is not fair to my mom as my mom had to be kept in the police station, even she went to washroom, police kept any eye on her!!! But why the police can let the maid free for 3 hours so that she has the opportunity to look for help!!!!! Should police kept an eyes on everyone related to the case????
To be honest, I was very mad as I paid tax but I can never got any help from the gov't!!!!! I questioned, the maid is not happpy, she can left home and called for pysical attack but I can't never do that to my boss even sometimes he is unreasonable!!!!
I guessed that she realized that we are currently looking for someone to replace her, so she took the action first!!!
I know they just want $$$, but I don't think I should pay for this unreasonable case!!!! Why HK people has to suffer. The law just concern the safy of the maid but never think about our family and kids!!!
Govn't conflicted all the times:
1) ask us to give birth of 3 kids
2) ask us to upgrade ourselves
3) ask us to work hard with the company during the poor economy period
4) ask us to take good care of overseas maid!

I called labout dept this morning. The staff told me I don't have to pay for the salary while she is not working at my home.
In fact, the maid is so stupid. As police asked my mom return to police station on the Aug 27. In other words, no pay for about 3 weeks. Even though they would get the $$$ from me, she had to share with the alliance. So silly!
Also, I asked the labour dept why it is so unfair that HK people needs 3 months probation but overseas maids don't. He said HK's labour law doesn't have the 3 months probation term, it was added by the individual companies. I then asked so, I can add the term on the maid's contract but he said NO as there is a standard contract for oversea maid!!!! "If you don't think that you can accept the contract, you have the choice not to hire overseas maid!!!" His statement made me
If the law set to my company that no worker can work after 6, then, I will definitely not hire an oversea one. But I have to OT many times, how can I afford it????
Also, I questioned by labour law doesn't set up a standard contract for HK staff. He said everyone's working nature is not the same. But I challenged him by saying that at least some standard to reference la!!!
