Thanks. Somebody also introduced Prof Yeung to me. He is very well-experienced in this kind of discease. But I though the fee is very high. I would like to know how much will you pay in total. Could you please advise me after your bb's operation later? Can it be covered by insurance as this may be a 先天 problem
I've consulted several doctors and most of them are advised to do the operation below 2 years old, only one said the operation should be taken around 3 years old as the risk of 麻醉 is higher than the operation.
Actually, I also registered in Prince of Wale and will see the doctor in Jan? Have you heard any bb taken this operation in Government hospital?
診金: $1200 - 1500 and I paid HKD1,400 for 45 minutes consultation.
手術費: My baby has to do 2 surgeries, so the fee will be HKD24,000 x 2 surgeries = HKD 48,000 (SIGH!)
仁安医院普通房 (4 babies in one room, but you can accompany your baby during his stay): HKD600/day
+ extra bed
麻醉費 :約幾千元
>> Can it be covered by insurance as this may be a >> 先天 problem
It really depends on your policy, but I have asked my agent, all "Inguinal hernia" is 先天 problem (not sure about the testis problem), so it should be covered. You should ask your insurance agent. For me and husband, it is difficult to make the decision and accept the surgery, because the fee is quite high and baby is still 4 months. However, we only trust this surgeon and we want to do it as soon as possible for the best of our son, so we decide to let Professor Yeung to do the surgery. Whether we are able to claim the insurance or not, is not the question now. I just don't want to see my son cries again because of the pain.
I can't believe you have to wait until January before you get to see the specialist. Sorry to hear that. But if the problem doesn't affect your son directly, I think you can wait. Since my baby has to fix his "Inguinal hernia" problem so Professor Yeung suggests us to fix the testis as well (one time anaesthesia)
I found my bb's discease in his 6 months old in 健康院. After consulting some doctors, they all asked me to wait until 1 year old. It is because 睪丸 may will drop into the right position naturally before 1 year old. The best timing is between 1-2 years old.
Is it?
Julie
Did Prof Yeung mention the operation timing for bb in general case (without painful)?
Some doctors said "隱睪" discease most likely together with "小腸氣". My son's problem is same as your baby. Only thing different is he doesn't feel painful.
Honestly, I do not know when is the best time to do the "隱睪症"(?) surgery, but Professor Yeung said, the soonest the better, because if it is not in the right place, it will deteriorate (he mentioned because of the body temperature higher and it will damage the testis). Beside that, most babies (or younger kids) tend to have easier and faster recovery. Of course there will be a small wound. Baby won't feel anything during the surgery though; the surgery will be done under anaesthesia.
My baby has 小腸氣 and his intestine will pass through the unclosed tunnel which caused the pop up at that place. Every time there is a pop up, my baby cries so badly, I guess because of the pain from the stretch of his abdomen. Yes, Professor Yeung said 小腸氣 AND testes are not descended into the scrotum are linked together.
For me, I can't afford to see my baby crying and screaming again, so we must do it as soon as possible for him. Since we have to do the 小腸氣 surgery and I do not wish to put him on a second time anaesthesia (if possible) so we might just as well do both 小腸氣 & "隱睪症" (?) surgeries together.
No worry, I am sure your son and my son are gonna be okay. Good Luck!
I will share the experience when it is the right time.
By the way, believe it or not, not only BOYS will have 小腸氣 (hernia), there is possibility in GIRLS too. My sister (when she was 5 years old) had done this surgery.
Glad that you finally found someone you trust to do the surgery. May I know the name of the surgeon please? How much do you have to pay for hernia "小腸氣" surgery? When will your son do the surgery then?
Hey, did you actually see Professor Yeung as well?
I will keep you all posted once my son is back from a hospital (his surgery is set on this coming Friday). I am OK but a bit worried of course, since I have bad reaction after anaesthesia and I am allergic to a lot of medications, thus I am afraid my son will have this reaction. I need to tell the doctor/nurses all the allergic medications before they do the surgery.
His name is Dr Fong Chin Wan, clinic at Yau Ma Tei - Heng Shing Building. He is also well-experience in this surgery. He quoted me total $30,000 which included the two surgeries (hernia "小腸氣" & 隱睪), anaesthesia & hospital expenses (around 3 days). I'm now considering the surgery date, must be not exceed his 1.5 years old.
I didn't see Prof Yeung, coz the fee is too high....
I've searched from website and found that less than 20 registered doctors in the list of specialist paediatric surgery.
Keep in touch. I believe Prof Yeung will heal your baby completely.
Hi, Carmen, Thanks for your information. I searched the doctor's name is "顧國偉".
My baby boy had the surgery last Friday and everything was alright. The surgery was successful. We were so afraid before but so lucky that baby didn't seem to suffer from any pain at all. He only woke up and cried for 30 minutes (after the anaesthesia), and doctor said because of the drug so he didn't feel comfortable. Baby doesn't look like he just had the surgery at all. He slept and ate well that night (after the surgery) and of course the next day, he was sooo active and gave me a big smile when he woke up in the morning. My husband and I are so happy to see him happy and healthy now. Unfortunately, he had done 3 surgeries. Professor Yeung found out there was another inguinal hernia on his left side as well. We first thought he would do the right hernia and the testis surgery, but since Professor Yeung found another hole on the left side, so he fixed that one as well. Wow, we paid for $90,000 for 2 nights staying. But the wounds are so small, almost can't see them at all...so don't worry!! I think it is better to have your baby done this surgery when he is still small, because I heard 3 years old kid from the next room crying so badly.
