I knew this situation. Honestly, you must need the maid’s service urgently so you hire a local one. For me, I requested her to stay in my house and start work during that 2-3 weeks. Although “illegal”, it’s the best way to protect yourself. I’ll compensate her at normal rate but all on cash basis, also, I won’t ask her to do high risk job (like cleaning of windows) and go out even on holidays. If the maid has objections to my offer then I’ll let her go and find another one. It’s also a good way to test the maid’s loyalty and obedience before the start of the contract.
