Re: Any recommended ski field good for 4 yrs old?

Dear Oasismcmug,

I wl bring my 4 yrs od girl to ski in Feb 06 to Hokkidao Nesiko. This is the 1st time for her to ski.

Nesiko is a really good place to ski because of the snow quality - powder snow. Also u can enjoy hot spring there.

Re: Any recommended ski field good for 4 yrs old?

It's quite convenient, u can take train in Sapporo to 二世古. Or there is some bus direct from Sapporo airport to there.
I always take train to there for ski as I usually stay in 二世古 for few day only for ski.

train schedule

Re: Any recommended ski field good for 4 yrs old?

Dear TszwingMo,
I just came back from Sapporo last night. In fact, I talked to the agency previoulsy and he recommended a ski field in Tokyo (I can not remember the name and I will ask him again)
Now I am thinking whether I should go to Sapporo's 二世古 (that means I go to Sapporo again) during Christmas time or I should go the Tokyo instead. Is 二世古 very cold during Christmas time? Is it a ski field with very professional ski track? I am the only one that can ski in the family. I afraid I can not handle my nearly 4 years old daughter for too long of a time if the wether is very, very cold. Did you live in the hotel that is in the ski field? Any other attractions after the ski field or where else did you or would you recommend to go?

Re: Any recommended ski field good for 4 yrs old?

Oasismcmug,

I never been to ski in Tokyo, but I know that there is some good ski field close to Tokyo. such as 群馬縣, 長野縣. Specially in 長野縣 的志賀高原. 這裏的滑雪場因舉辦過 1998 年冬季奧林匹克運動會而名聲大振.
Nesiko is the most famous ski are in Japan. All the ski facilities are very professional there. U can find some Asutraila coach to teach yr family to ski as they speach really good english. For the weather or temp. I think is ok if you wear enough cloth.
Normally I will live in hotel that very close to the ski field. As hotel will provide free shuttle bus to ski area. In addition, Nesiko hv 3 to 4 different ski area for u to choose.
For other attractions, as 二世古 is very close to Otaru. U can take 1 day trip to Otaru. Anyway, in Nesiko hv different ski actitivities such as ski motor bike or some ski field hv 雪兜玩.
Hope this can help u.

Re: Any recommended ski field good for 4 yrs old?

TszwingMo,
Your information is very useful and very attractive especially when you said there is Australian coach in the ski field. Do you have to book them before hand? Which hotel did you stay and how many days do you usually stay in the ski field? Did you rent all the ski things including clothes, ski, ski boots and ski poles from the ski field or rent it somewhere close? Any suggestion or you simply have brought it all already. I want to teach my daughter skiing and do they have coaching (the Australian one) for young children as well? My friend in Australia has a very good experience of taking the ski lession for his son in snowny mountain in Sydney. I envy it so much but going to ski in sydney is just too expensive if including the flight to Sydney as skiing is expensive for local in Australia anyway (compare with in Canada) However, I previously thought I can go in my daughter's summer holiday. Anyway, hearing that there is also Australian coach in Japan is really a good news as the flight to Japan would be cheaper than to Sydney.

Re: Any recommended ski field good for 4 yrs old?

Oasismcmug,

I hv book them before, they are quite professional and I know a Japanese girl's who work with the Australian is a mix but speck very good English and she is specailly good to teach children. For my coming ski trip in Feb. I wl also book this girl to teach my daughter.
For hotel, normally I stay in Ashiri Hotel Japan. I enjoy to stay in this hotel very much becuause for room, service and food is good. Also for hot spring.
Normally I will ski 3 - 4 days.
For the ski things. I only rent the ski boot and ski poles as other stuff I already hv. Usually I just email my size of shoes and ski poles to the hotel and they will help me to rent in advance, then send it to the hotel for me to try.
Do u already decide or fix where and when to go to ski w/yr kids.
I'm making a ski trip for some group of family with boy's or girls. As it wl hv more fun for kids to learn ski together. I already book my air ticket in CNY. Do u hv interest to join?

Re: Any recommended ski field good for 4 yrs old?

Dear SzeWing,
Thanks for your invitation and I really love to join. It sounds really great and I really feel like flying to there already. I am sure my daughter will enjoy taking the ski lession with the other children very much. However, I have booked my annual leave during Christmas for around 10 days. I afraid I may not be able to take any leave in Feb (Chinese New Year) again, eh? Plus, I have already went to Japan twice in this year and it would the third time during Christmas. (I just take the advantage of only flying 4 to 5 hrs to Japan) Well, let's see if I can join.
I still have not decided where to go as flying to Sapprono in Christmas can be very expensive compared with to Tokyo. May I ask how much for the air ticket in Feb? Is it a package? And how much for the coach per day or per hour? And how much for the rental of the ski things per day? And how much for your hotel per day? Any miscellaneous charges in the ski field such as chair lift etc. How did you find the Australian coach? Is it from the web? Where can I find these information? Thank you very much in advance.

Re: Any recommended ski field good for 4 yrs old?

Hi Oasismcmug,

Really hope that u can join our ski trip. The reason why I make a ski trip for some group of family is more easy for my kids to learns ski and she love too.
Well, u should love Japan very much as u already been there twice.
For air ticket, my hubby, me and my girls is all redeems ticket, only I hv to buy the domestic ticket to/return Tokyo to Sapporo.
I never buy the package as I alwaysredeems the ticket because my hubby travel a lot and got quite a lot of milage.
For the cost:-
Hotel - Yen 12,000 per day include b/fast and dinner for adult
Ski rental - Yen 2,500 per day per person for ski pole and boots
Ski pass - Yen 5,500 2 days per person
Coach fee - For example, if a coach teach 4 kids to learn ski, it cost apporx HK$300/day per person.

Normally, for the coach, I wl book through email in advance. Hope about can give u a more clear picture. Anyway, I hv already make a ski trip expenses and itinerary for my next ski trip. All the figure is quite correct as this this what my last ski trip expenses. If u need it, give yr email address to me and I mail to u. OK

Lets see whether v can ski together

Re: Any recommended ski field good for 4 yrs old?

Wow! It is really much cheaper than in Aus. Here is my email address: [email protected]
May I know how you found out the email address of that Australian coach? Is it from a website? can you tell me the website? Or you just met her in site and asked her for her email address?
I personally am not very keen in Japan. I love scenery and the scenery (in fact nothing surprising) in Japan can never compared with that of in Europe. I am more interested in Europe, especially Switzerland. However, it takes too long to fly over with my daughter and hence we go to Japan instead. You know the hotel in Europe is not as good plus you need to bring quite a lot of the stuff if you go to Europe such as kettle, hair dryer etc etc. Plus the food in Europe also do not suit little child. My daughter can almost eat anything in Japan and the country is very children friendly and good hygenic. May be we can fly somewhere far away when she is older.

I didn't know Naeba, do u have the Chinese name.

For $3290 for 7 day, 4490 for 14 day ticket to Tokyo is only the air ticket or not.?

For the coach information, I hv to ask my hubby. I pm u later. The mix girl Jananese coach hv teach me ski b/4. She is a very nice and prof.
In fact, I lover Europe very much either as I've been to Europe several times for holiday. Switzerland is one of my favourite country. I'v been there twice only on summer time. Actully, I plan to bring my kids to Europe when she grow up to 7 - 8 yrs old.
Fully agree w/you, Japan is children friendly and good hygine and also short flight time for ski. But we love Japanese food very much.
I think we are in the same interesing pt of view for travelling. Right.

Re: Any recommended ski field good for 4 yrs old?

I just find out from Yahoo that Naeba is 苗場. Do you have any holiday during Christmas?
Yes, it seems like we have a lot in common as both of our daughters are nearly 4 and it would be their first time to ski. In fact, both my husby and I also love Japanese food very much. I wonder whether we have any other things in common?
Can you read Japanese as I realized there is quite a lot of informations that can be search from yahoo Japan regarding 苗場, but I can not read it. Too bad!Well, may be I can use the translator from the web and read it slowly. I wonder whether they have Australian coach there as well? (you know this is very important) You know the air ticket is so much cheaper if we fly to Tokyo instead. We can even go to Disney land afterwards. I can stay back in Tokyo just in case if my daughter can not stand the cold weather or if she got sick. My agent even said there is hotel that is right in the ski field and they used to book it for their clients. Of course he said 二世古 is almost the most famous ski field in Japan. I also do not know the snow quality in 苗場 as dry snow for skiing is very important. I afraid Tokyo will never be as cold as Sapporo and hence 苗場may have wet snow which is not good at all .
Yes, the price is for tickets only and it is a prelimary quote from Cathay. By the way, what CNY stands for? He said he can find out more once we have made up our mind where and some more packages may come as time is still young now.
Thanks for your iten and I will check my email. Thank you very much!

Re: Any recommended ski field good for 4 yrs old?

Hi there, my daughter is just 2 yrs old, so cannot bring her out to ski, until she turns 5.

Suggest you visit here : http://www.hkssa.net

It's a ski/snowboarders forum, they will give you more advices on the ski field, etc.

Also, if you want your kid to try ski before the trip, I suggest you go to Slope Infinity to learn the basic stuff first.
