Actually, I heard from my elder sister who said cord blood saving is a hot issue recently. Is it really really good for our kid??? I would like to inform all mom who know about that.....pl feel free to share.....
Btw, I saw ATV programme in the afternoon yesterday, a doctor talked about why save cord blood in the program. It seems very useful and said the health talk has ten series until next fri. I think it is interesting to watch if you also don't know cord blood banking like me.
The doctor seems talking Healthbaby cord blood bank, is it one of the cord blood bank here? Coz i just back from England and don't recognize hk too much!!
yes, but the answer is more suitable for public cord blood donation. Still many doctors think it's no point to do private banking. In the present technology, the usage is mainly for stem cell transplant, which means that the recipient has problem in his/her own stem cell in bone marrow. And most likely, it's a genetic problem. So, he cant use his own stem cell and must use others.
if you are going to deliver in KwongWah or QEH, you may consider to donate the cord blood unit to RedCross HK.
On the other hand, many scientists are working on stem cell studies, e.g. use stem cell to grow specific cells like nerve cells, cardiac cells, skin cells, etc. Some individual successful cases are documented, but it's still a long way to go for common medical use.
