Any SG mummy going to live in HK?

i just back from a holiday from HK, found quite like it except the house is a bit small, and sometimes too noisy.

how do u find life there? how old is ur bb? sorry to ask u so many qns, but i eager to find out more abt HK then can decide (finally) when/whether go there leh.. can share with me esp on children education system there?

Yup! The house is much smaller than those in Singapore & ex too. The 'air' is not as good as Singapore. I prefer living in Singapore. If I have the choice again, I will choose to stay in Singapore.

My boy is 2yrs 5mths now. He just attending nursery for about 2 months. In Hk, children can go nursery at the age of 2 & enter K1 at the agae of 2 yrs 8mths. They will go P1 at the age of 6. Faster than Singapore. Frankly speaking, I don't like the education system over here cos it's too 'confusing'. They uses Cantonese to teach (except English lesson) for their Primary & switch to English for their Sec. I think it's tough for those Sec's students since they have so many new subjects & need to 'switch their channel' again. If you really want to let your kids studyin those English school then you need to paid more & many more. This is what I can do for my son. Eductaion wise, Singapore is better. I have no choice cos my hubby is hongkey.

my concern is also the education. if send my son to international school, fee is steep.. need a lot of $$ in order to live a decent life in HK ah.. but dun wanna leave my hubby in HK alone.. aiya... very headache now.. my hubby like to work there coz the pay is good..

Will you be working if you come to HK? It's alright if your hubby's salary is high. For me, my son is not studying in international school but English school. The fee is lower than international school but higher than normal school. For my son, I need to pay HK$2400/ month for his school fee not including transport. Primary school will even need to pay more but it's truth that HK paid is higher if you are professional.

i heard a frend put his son in Singapore International School, P1, need to pay 80,000HKD for school fee + 60,000 HKD for deposit. quite exp ah.. and browse through this forum, seems the international kingdergarten also quite exp.. but dun hv an exact idea how exp is that? if i send my son to Pat's Schoolhouse in SG, also need to pay abt $1000+ per mth..

not sure abt the salary level in HK, if draw annual salary near 1000,000 HKD (b4 tax), consider middle to higher? i prefer to find a job myself, so that we can rent a spacious house.. live in HK need more $$ than in SG..

Wow! your husband salary is high

Does it mean that his salary is 80000+ HKD / month? What is he working as if in HK? Then you don't have to worry about school fee. You surely can afford to let your kid study in S'pore International school there. I don't consider this school cos it's far from where I lived & we will need to even more. I think you can still rent a spacious house with that salary lah! Don't worry!

Tax here is higher than Singapore. So, when will you be coming over? Where are you living in SIngapore?

my hubby salary not that high lah, is a target to work hard for..but work in HK quite stressed.(well in SG also).. he in some bank..

minus tax, actually the $$$ left is not much.. hiaz.. also living cost + education fee + shopping etc.. this yr i may not go over, wanna get my 13th bonus.. :) but hope to reunion with him soonest..

So, your hubby is all by himself in HK? Even if his salary is not I mention that much. Some people here earn HKD 10000+ /month also can have a happy family. Just how you spend the money. Eductaion expense is not high if you let your children attended those 'traditional' school. The HK government provide 9 yrs free education.

After married, I no longer work. Now I'm looking after my son by myself. Expecting my 2nd child, still thinking whether if I can deliver in SIngapore this time.

It will be 'tougher' for you as your parents & in-law won't be here to help.

Hi Sim,
yah agree, ur life depends on how u spend $$. i m not a person like to spend $$ on shopping, but i no hesitate when buy things for son..so now every mth at my side no saving already, coz keep on buying books , clothes etc for son..

SG mummies all very kiasu, i no exception, think if i go to HK, then will source out playgroup, then kindergarten.. hope to provide the best to children is what us mummies want..

congrats on ur 2nd preg.. how many mth now? if too late then u cannot take plane rite? i trust SG dr, not sure abt HK one.. but last time when we went to HK, my son got fever/caugh, we hurrily go to a clinic nearby, the dr left a bad impression to me leh, no patience to answer qn of a worried mum and medicine not good.. after came back to SG, hurrily go c dr, son recovered very fast..

Yes! I agree with you. Most mothers will give their children the best things. I will too but really still need to save more on his schooling. Maybe it's becos my hubby is the only person who earn $ therefore I don't 'dare' to spend too much $. I won't buy branded clothes/ shoes for my son. Anyway, it's normal to spend more when you earn more. If I work, I think I will send more too.

Frankly speaking, HK mummies also very kiasu. They will let their children learn many things when they are very young.

I'm now 3 mths pregnant. I trust SG doctor too so I really hope I can deliver in Singapore.

Do you know how much will I need to pay for the hosptial bill if I delivered in private hosptial of Singapore? After medisave deduction??? Maybe say 4 people room... It's ok if you don't know

I delivered in KKH, 1 room package, is abt $2700(? just a rough figure, cannot recall). can use medisave to pay $1600(?).. provided everything goes smooth.. need to pay extra for epidural(painless delivery)..

talked to frends who deliver in Mt E, she maybe just pay abt $3300 or 3500 for 1 rm package..

So, you paid about $1100 for cash. Does it include doctor fee, bb fee & also your stay & bb stay? I think it will be cheaper if I just choose 4 room package. My friends told me she paid about $100-$300 cash when delivered in Thomson medical (normal birth)

How much was the epidural?
